General Description of Role and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the onsite resource for all matters related to architecture, finishing and design quality by developing and reviewing drawings and providing feedback and sketches to rectify design errors to be incorporated in drawings by Designers/Drafters where necessary.
  • Achieve a detailed understanding of the Contract documents (drawings and specifications), coordinate work with other disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical etc and advise on execution of architecture design and finish.
  • Review the Architectural drawings, reports, specifications submitted by the design consultant at each design stage to ensure completeness, correctness, compliance with the scope of services and agreement requirements.
  • Providing feedback and sketches to rectify design errors to be incorporated in drawings by Designers/Drafters where necessary.
  • Review the materials proposed by the Contractor and propose an alternative to improve the quality, future maintenance, safety and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reviews architectural engineering calculations, plans, designs, layouts in alignment with project specifications and project cost estimates.
  • Work with Engineering Manager to resolve architectural and related issues at project sites site.
  • Ensure the Contractor incorporates the comments raised from previous reports or site modifications and implementation.
  • Conduct meetings to review proposals and plans, making modifications or revisions as required.
  • Attend progress / technical meetings and distribute the minutes to all parties concerned.
  • Monitor/review all architectural Value Engineering, RFIs, and shop drawings for the Project.
  • Review the change requests / Variations submitted by the Design Consultant / Contractor.
  • Monitor and Review the Design Architect and the Contractor on site performance related to Architecture discipline
  • Perform field activities to record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area, review contractors' performance and claims against architectural plans, design and finish.
  • Facilitate on site problem solving for concerns raised by site contractors, construction engineers and clients during construction.
  • Organize and coordinate architectural documents and assist in the receipt and review contractors' submittals, validate design issues and suggest alternative solutions and field drawings to contractors / project teams at project sites if necessary.
  • Assist in the scope review, budgeting and justification of change work order, designs and drawings submittals at project site as and propose appropriate solution from the architectural perspective.
  • Coordinate with QA and HSE teams to ensure compliance of all projects specific architectural engineering activities with Quality and HSE requirements
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, methodologies, tools and best practices in architecture and finish.
  • Review any Alternative to the design concept submitted by the Contractor, prepare and submit a report including recommendation highlighting advantages and disadvantages of each alternative.
  • Prepare reply to all design consultant and Contractor correspondences related to his discipline.
  • Attending site to complete physical inspections and site surveys where required.
  • Prepare and maintain project documents per agreed deliverables like correspondence, minutes of meetings, notes etc.
  • Maintain a record of the design consultants/ Contractors' submittals and control the submittals/correspondence on time.
  • Monitor the performance of the Contractors design team to ensure the design documents correctness and completeness as well as compliance with the scope of services and agreement requirements.
  • Prepare and monitor the project responsibility matrix.
  • Informs themselves of the relevant Quality, Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Policies, Manuals and Procedures in place within Hill International, and ensures continued compliance with these requirements while employed by Hill.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture.
  • 12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Consulting or PMC experience is mandatory,
  • Project experience suchdid cargo terminals, or warehouses is essential from this role.
  • Experience dealing with local authorities is required. (e.g. NG, Customs, MoH, MoI)
  • Excellent command of the English Language.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Skills in organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling workflow.
  • Decisions to be based on logical assumptions; reflect factual information and available resources
