Job summary

A leading archaeological consultancy in Dubai is seeking a conservation professional to support the preservation and analysis of materials recovered from archaeological sites. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including identifying and conserving artifacts, ensuring proper handling and storage, and providing practical conservation assistance on-site.   • Prepare estimates and project designs for conservation work.
Job description
Job Purpose:
  • To contribute to and develop understanding of the past by conserving and assisting with research into material recovered from archaeological sites. To contribute to the successful commercial operation by fulfilling contract project work for external museums, archives and individual clients when required.
Responsibilities:
  • To identify, record, conserve, analyse, interpret and report on material from archaeological sites for study, publication, loan and exhibitions within defined project objectives, budgets and timetable.
  • To ensure that material in care is correctly stored, handled, transported and displayed.
  • To examine objects using x-radiography and basic analytical and physical techniques and co-ordinate the analytical work of internal and external specialists as they relate to conservation projects.
  • To give practical conservation assistance, liaising with clients and colleagues during excavation and post-excavation work and give advice on appropriate techniques and procedures for sampling, recovery, preservation in situ and subsequent stages of conservation work.
  • To work to established standards, procedures and guidelines as found in handbooks and manuals and other published guidance, including the Code of Conduct and Standards and guidelines.
  • To ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with copyright and other relevant legislation.
  • To undertake preventive and interventive conservation contract work for external clients with historic or archaeological collections and give advice as required.
  • To prepare estimates and project designs for conservation work.
