A leading educational institution is seeking a Lecturer (Grade L) in Information Systems. The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Information Systems and experience in teaching and tutoring. Responsibilities include delivering lectures in Project Management and System Analysis and contributing to research initiatives. The Department is situated within the Faculty of Commerce, primarily servicing students reading for the BBusSc, BCom, and BSc (InfSys) degrees. The Department was first established at Rhodes University in 1980 as a sub-department of the Department of Business Administration (now Management). Today, it is a flourishing, independent Department with a full undergraduate and post-graduate program.
Information Systems is a two-year major that attracts numerous students intent on pursuing careers in either Information Systems or Accounting. All students are required to have completed a first-year semester course in computing offered by the Department of Computer Science before registering for Information Systems.
The Department offers courses at the second, third, and fourth (honors) year levels, as well as Masters and PhD degrees by thesis.
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels.
A Master’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent. Membership of a professional board (e.g., IIBA, IITPSA, etc.) would be an advantage.
