Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Singapore is seeking an experienced geotechnical engineer for a contract position on the CR210 project. The role involves reviewing geological data, assessing excavation conditions for stability, and leading geotechnical aspects of tunneling projects. Candidates should have a degree in Civil Engineering or Geology and at least 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, particularly within MRT projects. The position requires working in compressed air and demanding schedule, including a rotating shift.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Review geological date and soil sample from shaft excavation, mined and bored tunnel and offer assessments and advice on impact to shaft and tunnelling works.
  • Assess face conditions during excavation to confirm stability of the ground for working condition.
  • Do face mapping for mind and bored tunnel.
  • Perform ground condition checks during cutterhead interventions for tunnelling works.
  • Evaluate risks related to soft ground, rock tunneling, and mixed-face conditions.
  • Review instrumentation and monitoring plans (e.g., inclinometers, piezometers, settlement markers).
  • Monitor and review instrumentation results against design.
  • Lead geotechnical aspects of tunneling projects from feasibility to construction.
  • To work in compressed air during the cutterhead intervention to carry out face mapping, confirm the stability and ground condition prior to cutterhead intervention.
  • Perform daily muck inspection, logging, testing, report and checklist preparation.
Requirements
  • A Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology recognised by PE Board
  • Minimum 8 yrs of geotechnical engineering experience
  • At least 5 years in handling MRT projects and experience in construction supervision of geotechnical work for projects of similar scale, complexity and nature of work
  • Able to monitor and review instrumentation results against design
  • Medically fit for compressed air works
  • Knowledge in face mapping and muck reconciliation
  • Able to work 6 days a week, with 12-hrs rotating shift (Monday to Saturday: 8am to 8pm / 8pm to 8am)
  • Contract position for CR210 project
