Job summary

A leading marine services company in Singapore is seeking a Trainee Engineering Officer (Tug) to run and maintain the engine room and deck machinery of the tug. The ideal candidate must possess a valid Port Limit Engine Driver (2nd Class) licence from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and be willing to work shifts. This role includes responsibilities such as monitoring fuel consumption, attending minor repairs, and complying with safety policies. New hires may receive up to S$3,000 as a sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Port Limit Engine Driver (2nd Class) licence issued by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
  • Be willing to perform shift work.

Responsibilities

  • Run and maintain the engine room and deck machinery of the tug.
  • Monitor and record fuel/oil consumption.
  • Attend to minor repairs of tug equipment and machinery.
  • Report breakdowns and keep an Engine Log Book.
  • Assist Technicians during repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained.
  • Handle towlines and equipment during operations.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of the tug.
  • Perform lookout duties as required.
  • Attend to securing the tug and assist with tow ropes.
  • Check life-saving apparatus for validity.
  • Perform fire-fighting duties.
  • Comply with company policies.

Job description

Candidates are expected to:-

  • To be responsible for running and maintenance of the engine room and deck machinery of the tug.
  • To be responsible for the bunkering, monitoring and recording of fuel/oil consumption of the craft.
  • To attend to minor repairs of tug equipment and machinery.
  • To report and record in the Engine Log Book any breakdown of engine, machinery and any accident.
  • To submit timely the detailed PM defect list prior to the PM schedule date.
  • To assist Technicians during repairs and PMs.
  • To ensure that the machinery, equipment, etc, on board the tug are greased and maintained regularly.
  • To handle towlines/tow winch and equipment during tug operations as instructed by the Tug Master.
  • To carry out cleaning and maintenance work of tug, deck, engine room, wheelhouse and other equipment and appliances on board tug.
  • To perform lookout duties as required by tug master.
  • To attend to the safe securing of tug moored alongside and assist in splicing/replacing of tow ropes.
  • To check all life‑saving apparatus and other appliances on board tug and ensure its validity and operation readiness.
  • To perform fire‑fighting duties.
  • To comply with the relevant requirements stipulated in the Related Documents above.
  • To abide by the company’s Quality Policy and Quality Objectives for service level.
  • To abide by the company’s QHSSE Policy, QHSSE Objectives and QHSSE Management Programme.

The ideal candidate must:-

  • Possess a valid Port Limit Engine Driver (2nd Class) licence issued by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore; and
  • Be willing to perform shift work.

*Monthly salary as advertised is basic salary. Monthly gross salary includes night shift allowance, night shift special transport allowance, meal allowance, and productivity incentives (after successful clearance of Engineering Officer (Tug) Training Program), where applicable.

*Shortlisted candidates will join us as Trainee Engineering Officer (Tug) and undergo the Engineering Officer (Tug) Training Prorgam. Once he/she completes the training program, he/she will take on the role of Engineering Officer (Tug).
