Job summary

A prominent company in trade operations is seeking a Trade Operation Specialist to manage all aspects of trade operations for dry bulk commodities. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience, in-depth knowledge of Letters of Credit and shipping procedures, and strong commercial acumen. Qualifications

  • Minimum Diploma in Business or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in dry bulk commodities, with a focus on metals.
  • In-depth knowledge of Letters of Credit (UCP600) and shipping procedures, especially in FOB-CFR contexts.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contractual terms and associated risks.
  • Familiarity with international metals trade procedures, financial controls, and compliance measures is advantageous.
  • Insights into the commodities market, insurance processes, import duties, and VAT regulations.
  • Proficient in using SAP financial modules and commodities trading systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of trade operations for dry bulk commodities.
  • Examine sales and purchase contracts upon trade confirmation.
  • Coordinate with counterparts for vessel nominations and shipping details.
  • Prepare necessary banking documents including Letters of Credit.
  • Ensure timely issuance of LCs by liaising with customers.
  • Verify shipping documents for compliance with LC requirements.
  • Facilitate invoicing and prepare letters of indemnity when required.
  • Calculate lay time and manage receivables/payables.
  • Conduct month's end transactions to ensure timely completion.
  • Collaborate with team members to support operational needs.
  • Advise front office on contract reviews to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor credit limits and escalate transaction risks.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance and internal control procedures.
Job description

Our client, a well-known company is looking for candidates for the position of Trade Operation Specialist.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage all aspects of trade operations for dry bulk commodities, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Examine sales and purchase contracts to confirm timing, brand, payment terms, and other critical details upon trade confirmation.
  • Coordinate with counterparts for vessel nominations, load and discharge agent details, and stowage plans.
  • Prepare necessary banking documents, including Letters of Credit (LC), and manage communications with banks for issuance and verification.
  • Ensure timely opening of LCs by liaising directly with customers and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Verify shipping documents for compliance with LC requirements and monitor vessel movements while updating stakeholders.
  • Facilitate invoicing and ensure compliance with contractual agreements; prepare letters of indemnity when required.
  • Calculate lay time and manage receivables/payables related to demurrage or dispatch.
  • Conduct month's end transactions to ensure timely completion and update the system to reflect sufficient cash flow for payments.
  • Collaborate with team members to support operational needs and provide coverage as necessary.
  • Advise front office on contract reviews and revisions to mitigate financial risks.
  • Monitor credit limits and identify areas of transaction risks, escalating issues as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to privacy, compliance, and internal control procedures while collaborating with departments to find solutions.
REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in dry bulk commodities, with a focus on metals.
  • In-depth knowledge of Letters of Credit (UCP600) and shipping procedures, especially in FOB-CFR contexts.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contractual terms and associated risks.
  • Familiarity with international metals trade procedures, financial controls, and compliance measures (B/Cs, B/Ls, LC negotiation, Security Trade Control, Internal Control) is advantageous.
  • Insights into the commodities market, insurance processes, import duties, and VAT regulations.
  • Proficient in using SAP financial modules and commodities trading systems.
