Roles & Responsibilities
Job Summary

The Topside Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, and integration of mechanical systems and equipment on FPSO topsides modules, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. This role involves coordination across multiple disciplines including process, piping, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical engineering design, calculations, and equipment selection for topside systems (e.g., pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, rotating and static equipment).
  • Review and approve vendor documentation, data sheets, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO, etc.) and meet project and client specifications.
  • Coordinate interfaces between mechanical packages and other disciplines (process, piping, electrical, structural, etc.).
  • Support package engineering, procurement, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Conduct mechanical design reviews, HAZOPs, and participate in 3D model reviews.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, integration, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure timely delivery of mechanical equipment.
  • Resolve technical queries (TQs), deviations, and non-conformities during project execution.
  • Prepare and maintain mechanical engineering deliverables including specifications, datasheets, calculation reports, and MTOs.
  • Participate in FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), SITs (Site Integration Tests), and pre-commissioning activities as required.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is an advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum 8–10 years of mechanical engineering experience in the oil & gas industry, with at least 5 years in FPSO topsides projects.
  • Proven experience with mechanical design and integration of topside process modules (e.g., separation, gas compression, water injection, utilities).
  • Familiar with rotating and static equipment design, selection, and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of international design codes (API, ASME, ISO, PED, etc.) and class rules (DNV, ABS, BV).
  • Experience working in EPC or EPCI environments preferred.
  • Prior experience in fabrication yard / offshore construction support is advantageous.
