Job description
Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day supervision of preventive maintenance or repair projects.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and productivity for all assigned workers (yard and subcontractors).
  • Deliver work according to schedule, budget, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain strong coordination and communication with SRM, other departments, and vessel owners.
  • Take ownership of preventive maintenance tasks onboard ships (e.g., cleaning, painting, insulation works, and minor mechanical maintenance).
Safety
  • Attend daily VSCC meetings and enforce Permit-To-Work compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks for critical activities (lifting, blasting, painting, scaffolding, confined space entry, mechanical work).
  • Conduct start/end safety checks and ensure proper PPE usage.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through campaigns and active participation.
Quality
  • Perform QC checks on painting and preventive maintenance work.
  • Ensure workmanship meets technical specifications and standards.
  • Liaise with Owners/Surveyors for inspections and acceptance tests.
Schedule
  • Plan manpower, equipment, spares, and materials for painting and minor mechanical tasks.
  • Monitor progress and update work plans to meet deadlines.
  • Escalate delays or scope changes promptly to SRM/DH.
Productivity
  • Assign job targets and monitor performance for painting and maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate with other trades for smooth execution (e.g., scaffolding, lighting, insulation removal).
  • Manage bottlenecks and optimize resource allocation.
  • Control man-hour usage within allocated limits.
Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead and mentor teams in painting and basic mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance on blasting, painting, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Prepare and submit service reports (Inspection/Acceptance/Test) for both scopes.
  • Ensure team welfare and administrative compliance.
Other Work Scope
  • Greasing and lubrication of mechanical components (e.g., bearings, hinges, moving parts).
  • Coordinating with mechanical engineers for complex repairs.
Administrative
  • Prepare and process Work Orders for assigned tasks and repairs.
  • Raise Purchase Orders for materials, tools, and spare parts required for painting and maintenance work.
  • Generate and manage Maintenance Orders for scheduled preventive maintenance activities onboard vessels.
  • Ensure timely documentation and submission of reports to SRM and Owners.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5-7 years in shipyard operations with exposure to painting and mechanical maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of blasting and painting operations.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and paint specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of ship systems and preventive mechanical maintenance (e.g., greasing, lubrication).
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Safety Shipyard Supervisor Course (SSSC).
  • FROSIO, SSPC, or NACE certification would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
