Job description

The Senior Staff Nurse/ Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to residents in St. Andrew's Nursing Home. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care plans for residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being. The Staff Nurse/ Senior Staff Nurse will also supervise and mentor junior nursing staff, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and maintain a safe and supportive environment for both residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Resident Care:
  • Assess residents’ health conditions and develop personalized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Monitor and record residents' vital signs and medical information.
  • Provide wound care and other nursing procedures as required.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, bathing, and mobility.
  • Respond to medical emergencies promptly and effectively.
2. Supervision and Mentorship:
  • Supervise junior nursing staff, nurse aides and healthcare assistants
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and ensure staff are updated with current nursing practices.
3. Communication and Coordination:
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Participate in care plan meetings and provide input on residents’ care and progress.
4. Quality Improvement:
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards of care.
  • Conduct audits and participate in continuous education programs.
5. Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation in the Healthcare System.
  • Ensure all documentation meets legal and organizational standards.
  • Report any changes in residents’ conditions to the appropriate healthcare professionals promptly.
6. Safety and Infection Control:
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for residents and staff.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Promote and practice proper hand hygiene and other safety protocols.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse with the Singapore Nursing Board.
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience, preferably in a geriatric or long-term care setting.
  • BCLS and AED certification.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of geriatric care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.
