A leading global shipping company in Singapore is seeking a Senior Vice President of Operations to provide strategic direction and oversee container shipping operations across regional offices. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience, exceptional leadership and negotiation skills, and a solid understanding of logistics and supply chain management. Responsibilities include managing equipment, vessel operations, procurement contracts, and logistics development, while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
As the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Operations for a global container shipping line,
You will lead and provide strategic direction on container shipping operations to regional offices, directly report and advise to the Managing Director of Singapore.
You are requested to set up vision and direction in operations of container shipping business, aligning with Global HQ's overall strategy, priorities and direction, based on firm and strong relation with market players.
You are to ensure adherence to safety, regulatory, and ESG standards across all operational activities, mitigating risks and promoting sustainability.
Equipment (Container box) management: Oversee regional equipment planning, control and optimization, including stock monitoring, repositioning. Collectively consider cost optimization and needs from container shipping sales team.
Vessel operational oversight: Ensure seamless execution of mother vessel calls and stevedoring, feeder vessel connection and transhipment activities across SEA & Oceania region, driving efficiency and reliability.
Procurement contract management: Lead terminal stevedoring, inland depot, common feeder, trucking, barge contract negotiations, securing competitive rates and ensuring compliance with Global HQ’s guidelines.
Logistics facilities management and development: Seize smooth and profitable operation of own logistics facilities in the region.Search and gather market intelligence on new logistics facilities development through solid market network.
Transportation and Traffic & Document management: Optimize overall Barge / Truck / Rail operations, Control and manage Demurrage & Detention and various customs issues and regulations.
Set up and monitoring to achieve each department’s key performance and risk indicators.
Develop short- and long-term cost optimization & savings of operation cost.
Oversee the following key areas of responsibilities:
Equipment inventory control and Equipment M&R management
Equipment utilization, forecasting demands and idling reduction
Gross Berth Productivity (GBP) management
Berthing on Arrival (BOA) management
Feeder and Transhipment space supply & demand and loading trend
Market intelligence for rates and cost simulation
Strategic vendor relationships and contracts management (service rates)
Compliance to regulations and internal / external requirements
Set up and monitor business plan of own logistics facilities
Coordinate new logistics facilities development with Global HQ
Promoting optimal barge/truck/rail operation flow and rationalization
Optimal management of DND issues and long idling laden container for Traffic & Documents
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., logistics, supply chain, maritime)
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in container shipping operation
Strong leadership and negotiation skills
Self-driven, dependable, and able to take on responsibilities and challenges
Proven execution skills in implementing process and system changes
Effective communication skills with proficiency in writing and presentations
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systemic thinking skills
Able to manage complexity, analyze root causes, and handle details
High level of understanding of overall sales and operations
System understanding and computer skills
Able to multitask and work under pressure
Committed to supporting regional and departmental goals
Willing to travel at short notice when required
