Job description
Responsibilities
  • Manage commodities derivatives sales and trading activities across the Asia ex‑Japan region, including customer onboarding, pricing, and execution.
  • Maintain good relationships with existing customers and develop new customer relationships in the region.
  • Conduct market risk analysis and prepare proposals to help mitigate market risk exposures through appropriate hedging strategies.
  • Manage internal credit applications, including credit analysis and ISDA negotiation, in accordance with SCGC and Sumitomo Corporation (SC)’s internal policies.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Risk Management (RM) departments on matters related to legal and credit.
  • Coordinate annual credit risk reviews for all customers, in collaboration with other offices.
  • Draft annual market risk limits and assess risk exposures for commodities traded, in collaboration with other offices.
  • Coordinate with Legal, RM, SC, to facilitate the issuance of parent guarantees.
  • Conduct jurisdiction checks for new customer onboarding in markets that are new to SCGC.
  • Approver for all applications, including those pertaining to credit and market risk, established in the company rules. Engage in discussions and providing supporting explanations to relevant RM teams in the UK or Japan.
  • Work closely with offices in the UK, US, and Japan to contribute to global book‑building efforts, such as sharing market information, introducing customers and providing liquidity.
  • Proactively propose enhancements to the global trading book during various meetings.
  • Apply industry expertise, particularly in the utility sector to provide hedging solutions for raw materials (e.g., LNG, coal) as well as output products such as power.
  • Collaborate closely with the SC LNG physical team on LNG marketing initiatives within the region.
  • Explore cross‑marketing opportunities for energy and metals products across customer segments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, with minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of experience in trading commodities derivatives, covering onboarding new customers, credit analysis and ISDA negotiation, and at least 2 years of experience in proprietary trading.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crude oil, oil products, natural gas, LNG, and power trading, along with a basic understanding of market and credit risk analysis, ISDA, accounting, and finance.
  • Strong understanding of commodity markets, trading fundamentals, and applicable regulations.
  • Strong understanding of the Japanese utility industry pricing mechanisms, with at least 3 years of hands‑on power trading experience in the Japanese market within the past 5 years.
  • Good knowledge of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), including regulatory requirements and compliance conditions for commodity derivatives trading.
  • Possess basic knowledge of accounting, finance, and legal concepts.
  • High proficiency in Japanese (both written and spoken) is required to effectively communicate with Japanese‑speaking counterparts in the region.
