Job Summary

You will lead contract negotiations and drafting for our regulated digital asset business across APAC, delivering innovative legal solutions for custody, trading, lending, and partnership agreements. Collaborate cross-functionally to manage legal risks and drive efficient contracting processes that support business growth and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead drafting and negotiation of bespoke contracts for pioneering digital asset products and services with limited precedent to enable business innovation
  • Draft terms of use and DISCLAIMERS to ensure clear legal protections and compliance
  • Collaborate closely with sales, product, regulatory, compliance, product development, and marketing teams to align legal strategies with business objectives
  • Manage due diligence requests related to transactions to support informed decision-making
  • Assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks in a commercially practical manner to protect the company’s interests
  • Develop and enhance legal contracting processes and operations, including workflows, customer contracting lifecycle, pipeline management, and document retention to improve efficiency
  • Support corporate governance activities to uphold regulatory and internal standards
  • Escalate complex legal issues to senior team members to ensure timely resolution
  • Contribute flexibly across the legal team by assisting with tasks beyond core responsibilities as needed
Required competencies and certifications
  • Law degree from a recognized university in the US, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, or other relevant jurisdiction
  • Minimum 4 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in a top-tier law firm with exposure to international legal systems and/or in-house legal experience at an international financial services or crypto company, ideally involving customer-facing sales, trading, and custody
  • At least 3 years of transactional experience at a law firm, demonstrating ability to draft complex legal clauses and manage transactions with sophisticated institutional counterparties and external law firms
  • Strong understanding of contract terms and their application in allocating business risks effectively
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment while balancing legal risks against business interests
  • Good understanding of blockchain technology and digital assets to inform legal advice and contract drafting
Preferred competencies and qualifications
  • Flexible, “can-do” attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
  • Experience advising on cross-border regulatory matters, including licensing requirements, registration obligations, and compliance frameworks across multiple APAC jurisdictions (Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AML/CTF regulations and sanctions compliance as they apply to digital asset businesses and customer onboarding processes
  • Ability to conduct legal research efficiently and synthesize findings from multiple jurisdictions to provide clear, actionable recommendations on novel legal questions
  • Experience working with external regulatory counsel and managing relationships with government authorities, regulators, or industry associations
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, escalate, and help resolve conflicts of interest, ethical issues, or potential reputational risks
  • Strong project management skills to lead cross-functional legal initiatives from conception through implementation
  • Understanding of smart contracts, DeFi protocols, tokenization, and other emerging blockchain technologies and their legal implications
  • Experience training or mentoring business teams on legal topics, contract standards, or risk management best practices
