Job description

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chinese Language and Literature teacher to join our Secondary School team. The successful candidate will teach across the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP), with the possibility of teaching Theory of Knowledge (TOK) in Chinese. This role requires a dynamic educator who can foster inquiry, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and a deep appreciation of language and literature.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
  • Plan, teach, and assess Chinese Language and Literature courses in accordance with MYP and DP curriculum requirements.

  • Potentially teach TOK (Theory of Knowledge) in Chinese, ensuring alignment with DP core expectations and developing students’ critical thinking and reflective skills.

  • Design rigorous, concept-driven units that promote inquiry, analysis, and effective communication.

  • Use a range of teaching strategies to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth and achievement.

  • Integrate authentic texts, contemporary issues, and cultural perspectives into teaching.

Curriculum & Assessment
  • Develop and refine MYP/DP curriculum documents, unit planners, and assessments.

  • Ensure alignment with IB standards and practices.

  • Prepare students for DP internal and external assessments, including guidance on exam techniques and academic writing.

  • Participate in standardization, moderation, and data-driven reviews of student learning.

Pastoral Care & Student Support
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Provide academic guidance and monitor student well‑being as an advisor, mentor, or homeroom teacher (if assigned).

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress.

Professional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues within the Language & Literature team and across departments.

  • Participate in professional learning, department meetings, and school‑wide initiatives.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen understanding of IB pedagogy and best practice.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chinese Language and Literature, Education, or a related field.

  • Recognized teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching MYP and/or DP Chinese Language & Literature preferred.

  • Experience or willingness to teach TOK in Chinese is an advantage.

  • Strong understanding of IB values, inquiry-based learning, and concept-based curriculum.

  • High proficiency in Chinese is essential for effective instruction and student support, while professional proficiency in English is preferred.
