Job description

Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) is an industry-led Centre by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Based on a contemporary business model of public‑private partnership, the Centre transforms remanufacturing and manufacturing research into industry‑ready solutions for cross‑sectoral industry members by bringing together best‑in‑class global companies and R&D minds in Singapore. Currently, the ARTC works with over 100 industry members to develop advanced remanufacturing and manufacturing capabilities. The members are comprised of global MNCs, leading equipment and software providers as well as SMEs.

We are seeking an innovative and technically skilled engineer to join our team, specializing in advanced welding, especially for electron beam welding. Advanced welding is one of the key technologies for ARTC, and mainly include electron beam welding, robotic arc welding, laser welding, vacuum brazing and diffusion bonding. We are looking for the right talent with the passion and drive to join us.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced engineer familiar with advanced joining processes, especially electron beam welding to join the Advanced E‑beam and Arc Joining team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing electron beam welding processes, novel process monitoring, rigorous WPS, and implementation of solutions for different industrial applications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop complete electron beam welding solution, including required fixture, joint design, programs, process parameters, welding strategies and pre & post‑processing for manufacturing & remanufacturing applications.
  • Develop WPS or WPQR through process optimization using DOE method for mainly semiconductor, energy and aerospace industries.
  • Perform weld performance evaluation, including analysis of defects, microstructure and mechanical properties, and the necessary sample preparation and failure mode analysis.
  • Operate electron beam systems for welding and additive manufacturing processes to support R&D and industry projects.
  • Develop, design and integrate hardware & software for process monitoring & control solution in vacuum chamber.
  • Develop customized CAD/CAM modules for advanced toolpath planning in electron beam welding.
  • Equipment and process owner for electron beam welding, ensure equipment and operators compliance, develop / maintain standard operating procedures, risk assessments and safe working procedures, provide guidance / training as required.
  • Other ad‑hoc relevant work for the team and A*STAR with possible secondary roles.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements (Must-have)
  • Minimum bachelor's degree qualification in welding, metallurgy, manufacturing process, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent engineering degree.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with electron beam welding and brazing in aerospace, energy, semiconductor industry.
  • Good understanding of welding principles, metallurgy and interaction of material with high‑energy beam (i.e., electron beam or laser beam).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to tackle critical R&D challenges (i.e., welding of casted Inconel alloys, deep penetration welding Al6000 aluminium alloys).
  • Good communication and team working skills to collaborate with different stakeholders (customer, project manager, tech‑biz, technical teams).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast‑paced environment in an agile manner to adapt to fast‑changing requirements of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong electron beam welding knowledge and demonstrated ability to learn may also be considered.
  • Fluent with good written, spoken and comprehension skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience (Good-to-have)
  • Master's degree in welding engineering, manufacturing automation or related technical program.
  • Familiar with industry standards related to electron beam welding (ISO 15609-3, 13919-2, AMS 2680, AMS 2681, AWS D17.1, ASME Section IX).
  • Hands on experience in other joining processes such as vacuum brazing, diffusion bonding, PSP.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for tooling/fixture design and toolpath generation.
  • Experience on programming of multiple‑axis system (CNC / Robot) for automated welding solutions.
  • Experience in technical presentations and preparation of research proposals, WPS / WPQR, patent application, project report & welding training courses.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions including, but not limited to, optical and SEM fractography/metallography, hardness, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
