Job summary

A leading educational institution in Singapore is seeking a Research Engineer II to design and manage a megawatt-scale grid testbed. You will be responsible for integrating renewable energy assets and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, 3-5 years of experience, and expertise in electrical system design. Job description

ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on a specific area of the energy value chain and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large-scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. As a Research Engineer II at ERI@N, you will be at the forefront of our microgrid technology and clean energy solution development efforts, responsible for designing, testing, power and energy management systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, operate and maintain the megawatt (MW) scale NTU grid testbed and support the core team in integrating new renewable energy assets such as solar inverters and battery ESS
  • Review detailed electrical power systems drawings submitted by contractors and ensure safe and reliable operation of the testbed
  • Manage the electrical maintenance contract of the NTU testbed and liaise with Licensed Electrical Workers or qualified practitioners on topics that involve 400V/6.6kV MW-scale distribution network
  • Lead the necessary measures to maintain and improve the overall electrical system safety of the testbed
  • Regularly supervise contractors at project sites in order to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Literary contribution on smartgrid related proposals, industry partnerships and manage the project progress timeline, milestones and deliverables.
  • Carry out field/site activities at located both in NTU and out of it as required.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in electrical/power engineering with specialization in power systems or power electronics
  • 3-5 years of relevant experiences in similar role / technical hands‑on experience.
  • Expertise in electrical system design, power / load flow analysis tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, Power Factory etc.
  • Proficiency with Singapore Standard Code of Practices for electrical installations, solar inverters, ESS and EV chargers
  • Sound knowledge of smartgrid automation systems, grid services, DER management and operational methodologies.
  • Experience in site supervision & contract works related to electric utility industry, preferably in the area of distribution system network, power system protection & switchgear (ABB, Schneider).
  • Prior experience in dealing with government agencies regarding the electrical installation licensing for solar, ESS, Diesel Storage and Hydrogen Storage.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, isolation and resolution of electrical system issues
  • Modeling skillsets with hardware/software in the loop such RTDS, Opal/RT and Homer is a bonus.
  • An effective team player with good written, communication & presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills.
