Job Description

Research Associate/Research Fellow (part‑time)

Location: Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore

Position Type: 1 year contract at the first instance (renewable), 3‑4 days a week, based in Singapore only.

About the Role

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health is seeking a motivated and capable Research Associate or Research Fellow (part‑time) to support a multi‑country, interdisciplinary research initiative in global health. This implementation science project focuses on designing and evaluating public health interventions that promote behaviour change, strengthen community resilience, and build local capacity around Water and Sanitation in low‑ and middle‑income settings across Southeast Asia.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to field‑based public health research and program evaluation, while collaborating with international partners and local institutions. The role also provides valuable exposure to broader global health initiatives within the school, with a focus on capacity‑building, participatory approaches, and scalable solutions to improve health in resource‑limited contexts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the baseline community assessment and overall evaluation of the intervention, working closely with the PI and local research teams.
  • Manage field‑based data collection, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observational assessments.
  • Design and validate survey instruments and context‑appropriate evaluation indicators.
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis of the longitudinal survey and monitoring data.
  • Draft evaluation reports, policy briefs, and technical documentation.
  • Create data visualisations to communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with economic evaluation experts and qualitative researchers to integrate quantitative findings into a broader mixed‑methods evaluation framework.
  • Support capacity‑building efforts for local field teams and partners in evaluation design and data collection.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Public health, Epidemiology, Data Science/Analytics, Psychology, or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 3 years of research experience, preferably in program evaluation, public health or applied social science.
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, Python).
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis, with preferred skills in:
    • Quasi‑experimental evaluation techniques (e.g., Difference‑in‑difference, PSM).
    • Social Network Analysis/Structural Equation Modelling (SEM)/Multilevel Modelling (MLM).
  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork in rural or low‑resource settings (required travel for up to 1 week 2‑3 times a year) – familiarity with Laos or Southeast Asia is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills and comfortable with engaging multiple stakeholders and community partners.
  • Exposure to qualitative or mixed‑methods research is an advantage.
