Construction Project Director – Duties & Responsibilities
1. Project Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Define overall project strategy, goals, and execution plans.
- Lead project teams: project managers, engineers, QS, safety managers, site teams, consultants.
- Make high-level decisions on project scope, resources, and timelines.
2. Budgeting & Financial Control
- Develop, approve, and manage project budgets (CAPEX and OPEX).
- Oversee cost control, cash flow, and financial reporting.
- Approve major purchases, contracts, and variations (VOs).
3. Contract & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations (client, contractors, suppliers).
- Negotiate key contracts and resolve contractual disputes or claims.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, government authorities, consultants, and internal executives.
4. Risk Management
- Identify major project risks (technical, financial, legal, safety).
- Implement mitigation strategies and recovery plans.
- Handle crisis management and critical issue resolution.
5. Project Execution Oversight
- Monitor progress and performance through regular site reviews and reports.
- Ensure construction works meet quality standards and specifications.
- Approve design changes, technical solutions, and major work methodologies.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with national regulations (e.g., Workplace Safety & Health regulations).
- Promote and enforce high safety standards and practices.
- Review safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
7. Team Management & Development
- Recruit, coach, and mentor senior project team members.
- Set performance targets and evaluate team performance.
- Foster collaboration across departments.
8. Reporting to Senior Management / Board
- Provide executive-level reports on project status, risks, budget, schedule, and challenges.
- Present project milestones and key decisions to company leadership.
9. Quality Assurance
- Ensure materials, workmanship, and processes meet required quality standards.
- Oversee inspections, testing, and quality audits.
10. Project Handover & Close-out
- Manage final inspections, certifications, and defect rectification.
- Oversee submission of final documentation, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals.
- Ensure smooth handover to the client and facility management team.
