Job summary

Job Description : What you’ll do

The electric vehicle (EV) and related new energy markets are forecasted to grow significantly in the coming decades, with Li-ion battery emerging as the major battery systems to power this growth. As a consequence of this growth there will be significant demand growth for key battery raw materials, including commodities such as Nickel, Cobalt, Lithium, and Manganese.

A key part of the Base Metals Marketing strategy is to develop a long term presence in the battery raw materials segment, leveraging our existing position in Nickel, whilst also utilizing our trading, potential sourcing and origination capabilities / platform to establish a leading commercial position in this segment. This role will work alongside the Base Metals Marketing team to establish and build up the commercial footprint in Li-ion battery market, supporting the development and execution of the global marketing strategy.

Key responsibilities will be to develop and manage external key stakeholder relationship (customers, suppliers, upstream / downstream commercial partners), supporting the company in producing and sourcing the right products, and ultimately developing a credible footprint in the battery raw materials segment.

Performance & Delivery
  • Support the Manager – Physical Trading Batteries in the delivery of the Marketing Budget (volume, margin, cost)
  • Battery Material Trading Book Management
  • Deliver the targeted P / L objective by trading (buying / selling) selected Nickel and Lithium battery materials.
  • Grow the 3rd parting trading book as per business plan in terms of product portfolio, P / L growth target.
  • Support S/O functions to secure long term supply for desired Nickel and Lithium products.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Develop key relationships across the Li-ion battery value chain, covering raw material suppliers / producers, downstream precursor / cathode material producers, battery cell producers, auto makers
Market Intelligence
  • Act as a source of market, customer and competitor intelligence for the battery raw materials segment.
  • Provide timely, accurate and relevant information to support the execution of the sales and marketing strategy
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in material science / metallurgy / engineering disciplines OR Advanced university qualifications, preferably in metallurgy, material science, and engineering
  • At least 5 years marketing / trading experience on Nickel and / or Lithium products targeting battery material segment
  • Comprehensive knowledge around industry trends and developments in the relevant markets (nickel, lithium, cobalt, etc.)
  • Knowledge of processing technologies e.g. HPAL process, precursor / electrode material
  • Good collaborative sprit
  • Good interpersonal skills targeting both internal and external stakeholders
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
