We seek experienced Technical Performance Architects who have worked with optimising, building and tuning highly performant Data and AI systems. Do you have an obsession with working with customers to help, design and implement high-performing Data and AI platforms, particularly those that would relate to the Snowflake AI & Data Cloud, then this role is right for you.
At Snowflake, Performance Architects are passionate about making everything efficient to optimal, often involving tremendous technology challenges that require no simple solutions. These architects exhibit flexibility and willingness to roll up their sleeves and do whatever makes Snowflake and our customers successful. Success requires working collaboratively with a broad range of people inside and outside the company.
Performance Architect, Performance Solutions, Field CTO focus on performance and cost optimization and work with both technical and business executives across the APJ region.
In this role you will work with sales teams, product management, engineering and technology partners to highlight Snowflake’s Cloud Data Platform as a core technology enabling platform for various workloads throughout an organisation.
As a Performance Architect, you must share our passion and vision in helping our customers and partners drive faster time to insight through Snowflake’s Cloud Data Platform, thrive in a dynamic environment, and have the flexibility and willingness to jump in and get things done. You are equally comfortable in both a business and technical context, interacting with executives and discussing business with technical audiences.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL GET TO:
- Engage with our sales teams and our customers to understand performance challenges that might interfere with the successful onboarding of a workload onto the Snowflake Cloud Data Platform.
- Assess performance concerns presented by our sales teams and/or our customers, and if appropriate, conduct detailed investigations to identify underlying causes and propose prioritized solutions/recommendations to resolve performance issues.
- Apply your foundational understanding of data platforms and distributed systems to drive customers towards optimal outcomes for their workloads on our Cloud Data Platform.
- Provide expertise while presenting Snowflake technology and vision to executives and technical contributors at strategic prospects, customers, and partners.
- Collaborate closely with our Product team to effectively influence the Snowflake’s product roadmaps based on field team and customer feedback.
- Partner with Product Marketing teams to spread awareness and support pipeline building via customer roundtables, conferences, events, blogs, webinars, and whitepapers.
ON DAY ONE, WE WILL EXPECT YOU TO HAVE:
- 5+ years of experience in delivering high performance architectures, models, and solutions on distributed data platforms.
- Expert level knowledge of SQL, including advanced functions, query patterns, and execution plan analysis.
- Deep technical hands‑on expertise in query tuning and optimization for analytic and transactional workloads, including schema design and indexing/clustering strategies.
- Understand design choices and engineering strategies to dramatically improve system performance and make design recommendations accordingly.
- Comprehensive understanding of data pipelines and data engineering best practices.
- Proven ability to optimize data ingestion and ETL/ELT performance for high‑volume data streams, including structured, semi‑structured (JSON, Avro, XML), and unstructured data loading techniques.
- Hands‑on experience with optimising and tuning:
- Ingestion of Data from source systems
- Ingestion of Data from streaming sources
- Lakehouse ELT pipelines on Iceberg tables
- Pyspark based transformation
- Container based applications read/write to data platforms, including private link configurations and cloud networking.
- Low latency ML model access through APIs
- Low latency data access on postgress
- Working knowledge of scripting languages (such as Python) and the ability to write clean and efficient code that interacts with modern data platforms.
- Specific experience with Python code performance tuning related to data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, Spark, or similar) and Snowflake connectivity/SDKs (Snowpark, Python Connector).
- Expertise in evaluating and optimizing storage and data layout for cost and performance efficiency on cloud platforms.
- Ability to assess gaps in technical understanding of others, and to clearly articulate complex concepts in simple terms to bridge/close gaps and drive better outcomes.
- Outstanding presentation skills to both technical and executive audiences, whether impromptu on a whiteboard or using presentations and demos.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related fields, or equivalent experience preferred.
