The Network Engineer is responsible for the engineering, operations, and lifecycle management of a large‑scale enterprise and operational network infrastructure supporting metro and bus transportation services. The role focuses on high‑availability network operations, secure network design, and project execution across a geographically distributed, multi‑vendor environment. This position is designed for a technically strong engineer with a pathway to Network Lead responsibilities.
Technical Scope & Responsibilities
Network Operations & Support
- Provide L2/L3 operational support for enterprise and transportation networks spanning 100+ remote sites, 2 on‑premise data centers, and approximately 4,000 end users.
- Maintain network availability for mission‑critical transport operations, including participation in a 24x7 on‑call standby rotation.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting for routing, switching, wireless, firewall, and WAN issues across complex multi‑domain environments.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), implement permanent corrective actions, and support continuous service improvement.
Network Engineering & Project Implementation
- Design, deploy, and optimize network solutions across:
- LAN / Campus Networks (VLANs, STP, QoS, wired access)
- WLAN (controller‑based wireless, secure mobility, high‑density environments)
- WAN / MPLS (carrier integration, redundancy, traffic engineering)
- Data Center Networking (core/distribution/access, segmentation, high availability)
- Participate in network lifecycle activities, including technology refresh, capacity planning, and obsolescence management.
- Implement resilient and scalable architectures aligned with enterprise and operational requirements.
Security Engineering
- Configure, operate, and maintain perimeter and internal security controls using Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls.
- Enforce security policies including network segmentation, access control, and secure routing.
- Support compliance with ISO standards through secure design, logging, and audit‑ready documentation.
Vendor & Carrier Management
- Support and administer multi‑vendor platforms including Cisco and Huawei routers, switches, wireless, and data center solutions.
- Work directly with telecommunication carriers on MPLS, leased circuits, and transmission services.
- Coordinate vendor support, fault escalation, and technology upgrades.
Documentation & Technical Governance
- Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration standards, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to network standards, design templates, and engineering best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring as part of the succession path toward a Network Lead role.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on enterprise network engineering experience in large‑scale environments.
- Strong practical experience with: LAN, WAN, WLAN, MPLS and Data center networking architectures.
- Demonstrated expertise with Cisco enterprise networking technologies.
- Working experience supporting Huawei network infrastructure.
- Proven hands‑on experience with Palo Alto and/or Check Point firewalls.
- Experience operating networks in high‑availability, multi‑site, mission‑critical environments.
- CCNA required; CCNP strongly preferred.
- Willingness to support on‑site operations, hybrid work arrangements, and 24x7 standby support.
