The Music Therapist administers music therapy as part of a comprehensive therapeutic treatment plan in groups or on an individual basis to address physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs as presented by patients and their families.

1. Clinical Assessment & Intervention

• Receive referrals and conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on therapeutic goals, patient preferences, and abilities.
• Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions to promote emotional well-being, meaningful engagement, and enhanced quality of life.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust approaches as needed.

2. Documentation & Ethical Practice

• Maintain accurate, confidential records of assessments, treatment plans, session notes, and patient progress.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to provide updates on patient and family engagement.
• Refer patients to other professionals (e.g. social workers, psychologists) for complex needs such as severe depression, suicide risk, or complicated grief.

3. Program Development & Research

• Support the development of programs to address service gaps and enhance care delivery.
• Contribute to research projects to advance evidence-based music therapy in palliative care.
• Promote awareness of music therapy through presentations, public engagement, and stakeholder outreach.

4. Professional Development & Collaboration

• Maintain professional competence through supervision, continuing education, and self-care.
• Attend departmental meetings and provide updates on activities and projects.
• Collaborate with inter-professional teams to design and evaluate holistic interventions for patients and families.

5. Administrative & Special Projects

• Assist in organising departmental initiatives and events
• Prepare reports on therapy outcomes and contribute to internal and external publications.
• Undertake tasks and projects as assigned by the Supervisor, Head of Department, or management.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Music Therapy
• 2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment
• Possess good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrates empathy, creativity and works well in team(s)
• Proficient in playing a variety of musical instruments and understands music theory
• Skilled in improvisation, composition and arrangement across music genres

The successful candidate can expect a monthly basic salary up to $5,200, commensurate with experience.
