Mechanical Engineering Lead (Data Centre Project Management)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in designing, planning, and managing mechanical systems for datacenter new development and infrastructure fit-out projects.

You will be representing the owner and/or tenants of the project and be responsible for troubleshooting and advising on engineering design, constructability, commissioning issues related to the project. You will be a key member of our team, and ensure the successful delivery of engineering systems for the data centre project.

You’ll be comfortable working with diverse teams, a self-starter, motivated, have excellent communication and organization skills and deliver excellent results.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and implement MEP systems for newbuild data center projects, adhering to industry standards and best practices.

  • Prepare mechanical engineering specifications, technical drawings, and construction documents, including HVAC system designs, piping layouts, and equipment selection.

  • Evaluate and select mechanical equipment and components, ensuring compatibility with project requirements and optimal performance.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses to assess the viability and efficiency of mechanical systems, proposing improvements and upgrades when necessary.

  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, reviewing contractor submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits to ensure compliance with design specifications and mechanical codes.

  • Perform HVAC load calculations, energy modeling, and airflow analysis to optimize system design and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into overall project plans.

  • Participate in commissioning activities, performing system tests, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring proper functionality and performance.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies related to infrastructure fit-out mechanical systems, and apply this knowledge to improve design and implementation processes.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in designing and managing mechanical systems – HVAC, Fire Systems, for data centre newbuilds and infrastructure fit-out projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, codes, standards, and practices for infrastructure fit-out projects.

  • Proficiency in design and/or project management tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HVAC, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore)

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including cooling towers, chillers, air handling units, and control systems.

  • Experience with plumbing and piping design, including water distribution, fire protection, and plumbing fixtures.

  • Familiarity with energy-efficient design principles and sustainability practices for mechanical systems.

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver projects on schedule.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders.
