Job description

About Asimov
Asimov is our open‐source humanoid robotics platform, building every layer—from structural frames and electromechanical assemblies to power electronics, cabling, and embedded control hardware. We aim to democratize advanced robotics by sharing designs, firmware, and ML models with the global community.

Role Overview
As the Lead Electromechanical Systems Engineer, you will own the end-to-end integration of mechanical hardware, electrical modules, and wiring harnesses. You’ll set the technical direction for packaging power and data distribution, drive cross-disciplinary alignment, and shepherd designs from proof-of-concept through pilot and production builds.

What You’ll Do

  • Systems Integration Leadership: Define architecture for power and communication distribution networks, consolidating connectors, busbars, wire harnesses, and sensor interfaces.
  • Cross-Functional Projects: Lead high-visibility initiatives—partnering with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to meet system-level goals.
  • Packaging & Layout: Design and package electronics modules, enclosures, and cabling assemblies to optimize for space, serviceability, and robustness.
  • Prototype & Validation: Oversee prototype builds, instrument wiring harnesses, and validate assemblies through performance, environmental, and reliability testing
  • DFM & Supplier Engagement: Drive Design for Manufacturing reviews; coordinate with contract manufacturers and tooling partners to refine designs for volume production.
  • Change Management: Establish processes for ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), manage beta and pilot build cycles, and mentor junior engineers on best practices.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in electromechanical product development—ideally in robotics, industrial automation, or consumer electronics
  • Education: BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of harness architecture, connector systems, and rigid-flex/FFC/FPC technologies.
  • Hands-on with analog/digital electronics fundamentals (switching regulators, MOSFETs, op-amps, microcontrollers, SPI/I²C). • Proficient in CATIA or equivalent CAD for parts, harness trays, and enclosure layouts.
  • Skilled at tolerance stack-ups, thermal management, and first-principles analysis (stress, cost, mass optimization).
  • Programming: Comfortable scripting in Python and C for test automation, data analysis, and hardware-in-the-loop setups.
  • Collaboration: Strong communicator able to present trade-offs and drive consensus across distributed teams.

Why Join Menlo?
You’ll be part of a tight-knit team defining the next generation of humanoid robots. With genuine ownership of system architecture and the freedom to innovate, you’ll see your designs come to life in real-world deployments. If you thrive in fast-paced, open-collaborative environments, let’s build the future of robotics together.
