The Role

Head of Communications Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) is a strategic role reporting to the Senior Director, International Communications (APJ, EMEA & LATAM). This person will be responsible for driving all communications activities—public relations (PR), analyst relations (AR), and executive communications—both external and internal for the APJ region.

As a key member of Pure Storage’s International Communications team, the candidate will lead the development and execution of an impactful communications program in APJ. We are looking for someone who is highly proactive with a fire in the belly to drive a best‑in‑class regional communications program; manage multiple projects across many countries; and maintain exceptional relationships with both external audiences (media, analysts, and influencers) and internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage a creative and high‑impact pan‑APJ communications program that aligns with global communications goals while meeting local business objectives.
  • Own regional relationships with critical journalists, industry analysts, and influencers.
  • Execute on major company milestones and activations, ensuring regional context and local viewpoints are front of mind to create a truly meaningful announcements program.
  • Come up with and execute innovative local communications activations that drive global communications goals.
  • Craft compelling storylines to drive the development of local thought leadership content (bylines, commentary, & predictions).
  • Manage a network of public relations agencies and other third‑party vendors across the region, delivering impactful results in each country.
  • Manage the local spokesperson program: understanding gaps, providing media training, and ensuring spokespeople remain up‑to‑date on the latest company messaging.
  • Create and manage external and internal communications platforms for the APJ business leader that align with corporate priorities and vision. For the external side include developing narratives, topical talk tracks, managing media and analyst engagements, social channels, and speaking opportunities. For the internal side manage strategic communications for business‑critical items and employee all‑hands.
  • Manage the APJ communications budget and operations to ensure all activities deliver a strong return on investment.
  • Manage any local crisis and related issues.
  • Participate in the regional customer reference program, flagging critical stories that can be leveraged in communications activations to tell a richer Pure story.
  • Collaborate closely with EMEA‑LATAM peers to facilitate the sharing and scaling of ideas across regions.
  • Manage and mentor the APJ communications manager.
  • Work primarily in‑office, expected to work from the Singapore (preferred location) or Sydney office, in compliance with Pure Storage policies unless on PTO, business travel, or approved leave.
What You Bring
  • Passionate about technology and innovation.
  • Minimum of 12‑15 years of proven experience (ideally a combination of agency and in‑house positions) in a business‑to‑business (B2B) technology environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading the development and execution of communications (PR, AR, and executive communications) strategies and plans that achieved results across multiple APJ countries.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent media and analyst relationships and an interest in developing more.
  • Understanding of APJ markets and ability to localize corporate information for impactful regional execution.
  • Agile in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and capable of juggling multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to partner across functions—particularly with regional sales leaders, field marketing, global communications, and corporate teams.
  • Understanding of how to measure communications results against established KPIs.
  • Ability to educate business stakeholders about what great communications looks like.
