Job description

Our Farm Operators will perform all daily farm procedures from seeding to harvesting and post-harvest processes in the automated mega-farm. Although most processes are automated, this role will require plenty of hands-on work and therefore a meticulous personality. The Farm Operator take directions from the Horticultural team to continuously improve crop cultivation techniques and optimize plant growing conditions. As you will be in close contact with fresh produce, a work attitude that emphasizes stewardship, safety and quality which all reflects Kalera’s culture and values is highly expected.

What you'll do
  • Follow standard good operating procedures to ensure crops are grown and harvested according to schedule and work instructions in a food safe manner
  • Basic preparation and operation of equipment and systems to ensure production line is running smoothly
  • Work with proprietary software to translate and execute seeding and harvesting schedules
  • Ensure all food contact surfaces including harvest tables, conveyers, packing tables, scales are cleaned and sanitized before use
  • Perform quality checks before, during and after daily operation of equipment to ensure plants are seeded, cultivated, and harvested under continually optimized conditions programmed into the system
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of operational tools, equipment, and machinery to optimize productivity, maintain high food and personnel safety, whilst minimizing equipment and system downtime
  • Manual seeding and harvesting of some fragile crops, trial plant varieties and harvest on demand products
  • Help to prepare concentrated nutrient solutions and supplies
  • Inspect for abnormalities of harvested produce to report crop disorders and diseases to the horticultural team
  • Inspect for abnormal operation of machinery and hazards during daily use and report them to the engineering team
  • Ensuring daily yield is properly recorded by the system and perform manual logging if needed
  • Help horticultural team manage experimental trials, document data and photographs
  • Conduct post-harvest inspection to ensure sorted and packed produce is of highest quality and food safety
  • Assemble finished goods to fulfil orders
  • General facility cleaning and proper waste disposal to ensure food safety and workplace safety standards are met
  • Work in both clean rooms (jumpsuits and full PPE) and warehouse environments
  • Help with material receiving, inspection, warehouse and inventory management
  • Adhere to personnel safety protocols
What you'll need
  • Experience in the Food Manufacturing Industry will be an advantage, but not essential
  • Physically fit (able to lift up to 15 kg and standing for duration of shift)
  • A high sense of responsibility to follow prescribed food safety personnel practices during all activities being assigned
  • Good team player qualities with a positive learning and hands-on attitude
  • Not afraid to highlight productivity improvement suggestions and work-related issues to supervisor
  • Prior knowledge or experience in operating machinery and automated systems, a forklift license would be a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Food Safety (on the job training will be provided)
  • Previous workplace health and safety and/or first aid training is a benefit
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
