Overview

Design Manager (Construction) • Report to Project Director

Job Description

• Manage overall design delivery throughout project lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring of shop drawing production in alignment with project specifications.
• Assist Project Director and Project Managers in resource planning and organizing the design team to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
• Oversee the preparation of drawings, design reports, presentation materials, and other documentation required for day-to-day design processes and contractual submissions.
• Lead and support the draftsmen team to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of all shop drawings and material proposals.
• Resolve technical issues and unexpected challenges that arise during the design and construction phases.
• Manage material selection and sample proposals, including coordination of material tastings with suppliers, subcontractors, and accredited testing bodies.
• Serve as the main technical adviser on-site, guiding subcontractors, draftsmen, and operations teams.
• Liaise with consultants, PE engineers, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and other project stakeholders for design-related submissions and approvals.
• Coordinate with local authorities to ensure all design outputs comply with relevant regulations, codes, and by-laws.
• Oversee and approve cutting lists for procurement and fabrication.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring needs and expectations are understood and met.
• Interpret design briefs creatively and produce concept, schematic, detailed designs, and construction documents to international quality standards.

Requirements

• Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Interior Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in design management within the construction industry.
• Experience working with LTA
• Proven experience in managing design teams, shop drawing production, and coordination with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, detailing, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with authority submissions and compliance processes.
• Strong project planning, coordination, and organizational abilities.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to address technical challenges effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
• Detail-oriented with strong design and technical acumen. Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise drafting teams.
