Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate PETs and privacy solutions; develop proof-of-concepts.
  • Translate academic research into deployable solutions; contribute to publications and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with government agencies to understand privacy challenges and run pilot programmes.
  • Provide technical consultation and iterate solutions based on deployment feedback.
  • Develop scalable solutions and adoption frameworks for wider Whole-of-Government use.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, software engineers and product managers.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics or related field; 2-3 years relevant experience.
  • Strong machine learning foundation with hands‑on model development and experimentation.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
  • Ability to diagnose training issues and design experiments to optimise performance and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, synthesise and critically evaluate research papers.
  • Comfort working with ambiguous problems; strong communication skills in Agile environments.
  • Nice‑to‑have: PETs experience (anonymisation, synthetic data, differential privacy), Next.js/React familiarity.
Notes / Sourcing Considerations
  • Look for candidates with applied ML + research mindset and ability to work with public sector stakeholders.
