DESIGNATION: Correspondent (South Asia), CNA DIGITAL (Freelancer)
RESPONSIBILITIES

The Bengaluru correspondent will report on business, tech, economic, and social issues in India for CNA Digital, with some of their work also appearing on CNA's TV and radio platforms. Along with developments in Bengaluru, the correspondent will also be involved in covering news elsewhere in India and South Asia as CNA expands its presence in the region.

Scope of the Role:

The successful candidate will be expected to monitor and research news developments and produce deliverables under the supervision of Singapore‑based desk editors, while working alongside colleagues from CNA TV International. The job will include day‑to‑day editorial deliverables, planning, travel, and external engagement to drive coverage of India and the wider South Asia region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor news developments in India and the region; provide prompt, concise, and accurate updates to guide editorial decisions. Oversee the planning of India‑related coverage and deliverables for stories, series, and events.
  • Produce a steady supply of original, value‑added, and impactful stories that also meet the highest editorial standards. Output should run a full gamut of story formats, from news, features and analysis to commentaries and special projects.
  • File deliverables under the guidance of Singapore‑based desk editors. These can include (but will not be limited to): live hits, news stories, feature packages, multi‑part feature series, in‑depth planning of coverage.
  • Build up a reliable network of government officials, businesspeople, private‑sector professionals, and analysts; work with CNA's existing partners in India.
  • Liaise with Indian officials inside and outside of India, with care and caution always taken to properly and professionally represent CNA as part of Mediacorp, Singapore's largest content creator and national media network.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying possible story ideas from news developments that will be interesting and impactful for CNA's audience.
  • Travel around Bengaluru or outside of the Indian city as required and be prepared to work irregular hours.
  • Provide suggestions to senior editors in forward planning of major events
  • Ability to produce content spanning various platforms such as digital, TV, or radio a plus
  • Contribute to CNA's efforts in adopting new technology, social media tools
QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • At least 15 years as full‑time journalist in India, covering Bengaluru as a plus.
  • Held PIB card for at least 5 years under the Central Media Accreditation Guidelines 2022.
  • Currently holding freelancer PIB card issued by the Press Information Bureau of India.
  • Strong network of contacts in India.
  • A news junkie with a keen interest in the news/current affairs agenda in India and across Asia.
  • Outstanding writing skills, newsgathering abilities, and a tenacious spirit.
  • A sound understanding of geopolitical sensitivities, and awareness of potential red lines.
  • Native‑level proficiency in English, with fluency in local languages such as Kannada and Hindi a must.
  • An independent operator with solid inter‑personal skills who can also be a strong team player.
  • Prior experience in working with visuals/AI/social media tools a plus.
  • Prepared to work irregular shifts, including on weekends and public holidays.
  • This position will be based in Bengaluru.
