Are you experienced in Critical Infrastructure Commissioning Processes? AWS is looking for a dynamic Commissioning Engineer (CxE) to support the delivery of AWS Data Centers. As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling fascinating and challenging problems building and supporting the operations of AWS owned data centres within the APJC region and globally. The AWS Data Center Capacity Delivery Commissioning team (DCCD Cx) understands, evaluates, defines and manages the expectations of construction and equipment quality in accordance to engineering designs to meet the customer requirements.

Key Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the DCCD Cx Commissioning Engineer (CxE) include, but are not limited to, oversight and coordination of multi-discipline division of work related to pre-commissioning and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure construction and special projects.

You are responsible for managing and supporting commissioning vendors, contractors and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems including medium and low voltage power systems, Generators, UPS, HVAC, Chilled Water, BMS and EPMS systems. You will provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, designing, planning of project execution and innovation projects. In addition, you will be required to review all multi-discipline integrated systems testing and commissioning documents to ensure they are compliant with the basis of design, project specifications and standards.

It is the CxE responsibility to ensure that all commissioning procedures follow the appropriate safety practices, policies and procedures. They enthusiastically participate in all project and company safety programs. CxE must also audit commissioning activities continuously to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. The CxE proactively communicates with the DCCD Cx Regional Manager and the DCCD Cx team to ensure that the applicable test documents are created in accordance with all commissioning requirements. Following the AWS project reporting format, the CxE is responsible for weekly reporting of commissioning progress and metrics for assigned projects. The CxE will work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously, under tight deadlines according to prescribed metrics.

This role includes domestic and international travel for up to 25% of the time (Typical travel is 10%). The CxE is required to work longer than eight hours in duration with potential for night and weekends work.

Systems Analysis
  • Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical and electrical construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittals and sequences of operations.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback regarding the design, equipment selection, pre-functional checklists, startup and functional test scripts developed by others, maintainability, construct-ability and commission-ability.
  • Review documentation for compliance with Amazon standards, industry standards, and design specifications.
  • Assess the capability of commissioned systems to match the design and find opportunities for improvements.
Systems Validation
  • Verify the system's performance, including establishing acceptance criteria, obtaining and reviewing completed reports, performing verification and validation.
  • Validate in as-built documentation and review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate commissioning issues, questions and concerns through proper channels in a timely manner.
  • Partner with internal and external teams to ensure commissioning regime has sufficient depth and breadth.
  • Support commissioning audits.
Project Management
  • Managing and executing the commissioning of critical infrastructure to validate installation, operation and performance of mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
  • Act as the point of contact for commissioning vendors' escalations, developing mitigation plans to unblock obstacles.
  • Manage vendors via audits of deliverables and setting expectations with commissioning vendors to work in accordance with Amazon requirements.
  • Develop project schedules and plans, not limited to project deliveries, strategic initiatives and innovation projects.
  • Represent DCCD Cx in projects coordination meetings with external vendors and contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality of commissioning documentation.
  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions and time zones.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications (esp. MS Excel, Word) at an advanced level
