Job description
SUMMARY:

As a Commis/Demi Chef at Oak & Ember, you will be an integral part of our kitchen team, specializing in the preparation and execution of our dishes. You will assist the Head Chef and Sous Chef in all kitchen operations, maintain food hygiene standards, and contribute to the development of our unique smoked meat offerings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Assist in the preparation, cooking and presentation of dishes
  • Ensure portion control and minimize food wastage
  • Ensure all dishes are served at the highest quality and consistency
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop new menu items and improve existing dishes
Kitchen Operations
  • Implement portion control techniques to reduce food wastage
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Maintain an organized and efficient workstation, following food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations, including managing inventory and supplies
Team Collaboration
  • Assist in preparing for and executing special events or large group bookings
  • Assist in preparing the kitchen for service, ensuring all ingredients and tools are ready, and prep work is completed
  • Mentor and support junior kitchen staff, ensuring they follow kitchen procedures and safety standards
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven experience as a Demi Chef or similar role in a restaurant
