Job description
JOB PURPOSE

The role is primarily responsible for ensuring a stable, cost-effective, and high-quality supply of fresh vegetables for all supermarket outlets through effective supplier management, cost control and daily coordination with production and operations. The role also oversees product sales performance, margin management and yield analysis for the fresh categories.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Source and manage local and overseas vegetable suppliers; negotiate prices, delivery terms, and product specifications.
  • Monitor sales, product mix margin, and promotions to achieve KPIs.
  • Plan and execute daily/weekly purchase quantities based on forecast and sales trends.
  • Track market trends, seasonal availability, and pricing movements.
  • Work closely with the Production, Merchandising, and Operations team on stock levels and promotional activities.
  • Monitor costs and GP margins; prepare regular procurement and performance reports.
  • Resolve issues related to supply, quality, and stock shortages.
  • Compile reports and present findings to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular customer visits to understand demand and feedback.
  • Participate in overseas sourcing trips, supplier inspections, and trade events when required.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the line manager
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Diploma/Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Food Science or related fields.
  • Prior buying/supply experience in the supermarket retail trade will be giving priority
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fresh produce procurement, preferably vegetables.
  • Strong knowledge of vegetables varieties, seasonal patterns and market pricing.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and supplier management skills.
  • Analytical, detail oriented, and able to make quick purchasing decisions
  • Strong IT literacy skills and proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated, target driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess a valid driving license
