Business Director - IP & Trademark Strategy

A rare opportunity has arisen for an accomplished professional to join a rapidly expanding investment group, backed by one of Japan’s most prominent entertainment conglomerates, as the Business Director Intellectual Property and Trademark Strategy.

This newly created position is based in Singapore and offers you the chance to shape and lead a full-service marketing and branding agency from its inception. You will be at the forefront of a strategic initiative designed to manage, develop, and commercialise a diverse portfolio of high-value intellectual property assets—including logos and trademarks—supporting a global consumer industry valued at over USD 150 billion.

  • Play a pivotal role in building and leading a new marketing and branding agency headquartered in Singapore, with the backing of a major international entertainment group.
  • Take ownership of the strategic commercialisation of trademarks and brand IP across borders, collaborating closely with legal, operations, and executive teams in both Singapore and Japan.

What you'll do:

  • Design and implement comprehensive strategies for the commercialisation of trademarks and brand IP across multiple markets, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with legal teams to ensure robust protection, registration, and enforcement of trademarks while navigating complex regulatory environments.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders—including internal leadership, external partners, licensors, licensees, and clients—to foster trust and shared success.
  • Lead all aspects of P&L management for the business unit, including budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
  • Identify new market opportunities for monetising IP assets through innovative partnerships, licensing agreements, co-branding initiatives, or other commercial channels.
  • Champion best practices in brand stewardship by setting standards for quality control, compliance, and consistent messaging across all touchpoints.

What you bring:

  • Extensive experience (10–15+ years) spanning marketing strategy, branding initiatives, commercial operations management, and intellectual property or trademark strategy within large-scale organisations or agencies.
  • Proven track record in developing successful go-to-market strategies for brand IP assets across multiple geographies or sectors.
  • Deep understanding of intellectual property structures—including trademark registration processes—and familiarity with relevant legal frameworks governing IP protection.
  • Japanese speaking skills is preferred to work with Japanese speaking counterparts in HQ.
