As an Automation Engineer, you will manage overall integrity and lifecycle reliability management of all automation and control systems to achieve high reliability and availability with cost effectiveness. This role necessitates close collaboration with various departments. You will work with the Operations department and process controls team to monitor systems defects and plan accordingly. Automation Engineer supports and participates in projects and turnaround events to ensure asset integrity. More about the job / Your role in creating a sustainable future
  • Provide automation and control systems support to the Neste Singapore Refinery for safe and reliable operations. Responsibilities include engineering assessment, engineering design, troubleshooting, root cause analysis & solutions and long‑term equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Singapore refinery engineering point of contact to support Maintenance and Operations for complex automation and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Act as technical authority for automation, control systems (i.e. DCS & IoT) and cyber‑security related matters for the Neste Singapore Refinery. Provide system integrity, reliability and maintenance inputs.
  • Be the main focal person and technical authority in Neste Singapore for Emerson Process Control System (PCS), Emerson Wireless Network for HART measurement and Emerson Software Licenses Account holder.
  • Develop & manage the lifecycle of different process control systems (Emerson Delta V / Valmet PCS), safety instrumented systems (Emerson Delta V / HIMA), & other subsystem PLC (MMS, wireless network etc.). Responsible for pre‑study & feasibility study phases.
  • Ensure all automation systems are assigned with effective / efficient maintenance programs (routine inclusive) and spare parts management program.
  • Accountable for implementation of preventive & predictive maintenance plans to achieve high level of asset integrity & reliability.
  • Establish and maintain high quality documented maintenance processes, standard maintenance procedures and work instructions.
  • Sustain safe, quality and effective executions of all maintenance activities (planned, unplanned, mandatory / statutory, routine or ad‑hoc), ensure compliance to relevant requirements, rules, regulations, specifications, codes and standards.
  • Lead in troubleshooting of issues arising from hardware / software‑related of all PCS, SIS & other automation systems.
  • Timely reporting and follow‑up to all safety, reliability and quality issues. Lead, facilitate or participate in root cause analysis, investigations and improvement discussions.
  • Represent Maintenance in project events and turnarounds management, from initial planning, scoping, resourcing, preparations, execution and post event reviews, capturing lesson learnt and closures.
  • Collaborate with Process Control and E&I in developing SIS / ESD verification tests requirements and subsequent execution to meet established requirements.
  • Ensure effective and efficient handing over after projects events and turnarounds. Support in pre‑startup safety reviews (PSSR), ready for startup (RFSU) assessments, etc.
  • Responsible to raise MOC with regards to DCS related matters.

  • Degree in Engineering preferably in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automation and control systems.
  • Require experience with both Emerson Delta‑V DCS and Siemens S7 PLC.
  • Strong experience in Hardware Engineering, Panel Design, and Network Architecture.
  • Experience in Pre‑FAT and conducting customer FAT (HW & SW) and SAT.
  • Good understanding of process automation hazards and their mitigations in an operating process unit.
  • Good understanding of process control functions in an operating plant and strong process knowledge of an operating process unit.
  • Familiarity with buyouts, including HMI, servers, cables, control desk/furniture, field instruments, relays, barriers and UPS system for DCS.
  • Thorough understanding of project life cycle, production phases, and time management.
  • Awareness of technical risks during project execution and on‑site activities.
  • Supervise control system installation, commissioning, start‑up, and verification/functional testing of I/O interfaces to field devices.
