  • Create and review CBTC scheme plans, ensuring compliance with signalling principles, operational requirements, and project constraints.
  • Conduct headway simulations and performance assessments to validate system throughput and dwell time criteria.
  • Define, document, and verify rolling stock interfaces, both hardware (e.g., onboard ATC equipment, cabling, I/O) and functional (e.g., control messages, passenger announcements).
  • Integrate ATC systems with critical onboard functions including:
    • Traction and brake performance profiles
    • Passenger information and announcement systems
    • Stopping accuracy algorithms and calibration
    • Train wake‑up and sleep sequences
    • Vehicle bus communications (e.g., MVB, Ethernet)
  • Develop and manage interface control documents (ICDs), ensuring proper coordination between wayside and onboard systems.
  • Collaborate with rolling stock manufacturer, system engineers, and software teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Support lab testing, system validation, and on-site commissioning activities.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to applicable safety and quality standards including CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129, IEEE 1474, and IEC 62290.
  • Participate in hazard identification, risk assessment, RAMS development, and safety case preparation.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including clients and consultants, to align design outputs with project goals.
What do I need to qualify for this role
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Railway Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 35 years of relevant experience in signalling or train control systems, ideally within CBTC or advanced ATC environments.
  • Proven experience with:
    • CBTC scheme planning and design
    • System‑level headway simulation and analysis
    • Rolling stock interface definition and validation
    • Integration of traction, braking, and stopping control within ATC
    • Vehicle communication networks (MVB and Ethernet)
    • Trainborne ATC system wake/sleep management
  • Strong knowledge of RAMS principles and safety‑critical system lifecycle.
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, Microstation, DOORS and signalling simulation platforms.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Preferred skills:
    • Experience with Siemens CBTC system.
    • Certification or formal training in CENELEC standards or functional safety.
    • Experience in multi‑vendor project environments and complex integration contexts.
