Job Description

The Department of Architecture invites applications for one Tenure Track position in urban design and/or urban planning. The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, based on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2024). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning/design, landscape architecture and conservation. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. The Department offers internationally competitive remuneration, generous employment benefits as well as access to research funding for both junior and senior academics. International applicants will also receive subsidized housing at Kent Vale, a faculty residence on the NUS campus.

Qualifications

The Department seeks a highly qualified and inspirational candidate for the position of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) who will contribute to graduate programmes in urban planning and design. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to work across disciplines to address pressing environmental, urban, and social challenges in Asia. Research expertise in physical planning, urban development and governance, geo‑spatial analysis, climate resilience and social equity is highly desired.

Applicants for the Tenure track position should hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Candidates should have a strong research trajectory that has the potential to secure future grants and lead the chosen field of specialization at the international level. The Department is particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate how their research can be integrated in or developed with studio pedagogy. The successful candidate will be expected to lead urban design and planning studios in the various graduate degree programmes offered by the Department. In addition, he/she is expected to teach core courses and electives based on his/her specialization.

  • A portfolio showing major projects and other forms of professional practice and studio teaching (if any).
  • A statement of teaching (maximum two pages) and a sample syllabus of a studio course to be taught.
  • A statement of research (including a short research plan for next three to five years maximum three pages) – citing up to five significant publications, creative work or other scholarly contribution and explaining their significance, and a writing sample.
  • A complete list of publications, grouped according to papers, books, and reviews, including page numbers, in bibliographic form.
  • Names of four referees with contact details (who will be contacted only if shortlisted).
