Position: Assistant Manager, Mechanical Engineering

Location: Singapore (with regional travel to China / Vietnam)

1. Position Summary

The Assistant Manager, Mechanical Engineering, is responsible for leading and coordinating regional engineering activities across Singapore, China, and Vietnam. This role provides mechanical/structural design oversight, drives NPI/NPD execution, manages cross‑country technical communication, and ensures high‑quality engineering deliverables from overseas suppliers and manufacturing partners. The position requires strong leadership, supplier management capability, and a deep understanding of Asia‑based manufacturing ecosystems.

2. Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Leadership & Execution
    Lead mechanical engineering activities for regional projects and ensure alignment with corporate engineering standards.
    Oversee review of design concepts, mechanical drawings, prototypes, and BOMs, ensuring manufacturability and cost efficiency.
    Drive DFM/DFX evaluations, tolerance assessments, and recommend engineering improvements across project stages.
    Provide technical direction to resolve complex engineering and production issues during prototype, pilot build, and mass production phases.
    Supervise prototype development activities—including 3D printing and early functional validation—executed by internal teams or external vendors.
  • Cross‑regional & Supplier Collaboration
    Coordinate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams in Singapore, China, and Vietnam to ensure timely project execution.
    Manage communication with OEM/ODM suppliers, tooling vendors, and material partners across multiple regions.
    Ensure engineering requirements and technical standards are consistently implemented at overseas factories.
  • Documentation, Governance & Standardization
    Oversee preparation of mechanical specifications, technical documents, test reports, and validation records.
    Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal processes, and engineering quality governance.
    Support cost‑reduction initiatives and continuous improvement activities across projects and suppliers.
  • On‑site Technical & Operational Support
    Lead on‑site engineering support during tooling trials, supplier audits, pilot builds, and mass‑production readiness reviews in China/Vietnam.
    Coordinate cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues with vendors and production teams.
3. Requirements
  • Education & Experience
    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    6–8 years of experience in mechanical design, NPI/NPD, regional manufacturing support, or supplier management.
    \ Proven experience working with China/Vietnam factories or cross‑regional engineering teams.
    Background in consumer electronics or electro‑mechanical systems is preferred.
  • Technical Skills
    Proficient in CAD tools: Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
    Strong understanding of manufacturing processes: injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, CNC machining, and assembly operations.
    Familiar with prototyping tools such as 3D printing (FDM) and early‑stage concept validation technologies.
    Practical knowledge of Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and C/C++ for evaluating functional prototypes.
    Competent in using Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office for technical documentation and visual preparation.
    Solid knowledge of DFM/DFX, tolerance analysis, and structured engineering debugging methodologies.
  • Soft Skills
    Excellent communication and cross‑functional coordination skills across multicultural and multi‑country teams.
    Strong leadership, problem‑solving capability, and a practical engineering mindset.
    Able to manage multiple concurrent projects and guide junior engineers.
    Willing to travel regularly to China/Vietnam for project and supplier support.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    Experience working with OEM/ODM partners and Asian manufacturing supply chains.
    Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and quality systems.
    Ability to communicate in Mandarin or Vietnamese to liaise effectively with overseas suppliers.
