We are representing a financial services firm in Singapore that supports Japanese corporates and cross-border operations. As part of its growth, the firm is seeking a Japanese-speaking Accountant with hands-on exposure to Japanese GAAP (JGAAP) and the ability to work directly with financial statements in Japanese.
This role is suited to an accountant who combines technical depth with people leadership and stakeholder-facing confidence. You will operate in a service-provider environment, working with multiple internal teams and external clients, ensuring high-quality delivery while guiding junior staff.
It is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, mentoring others, and being the bridge between clients and execution teams.
Prepare, review, and reconcile financial statements and management reports
Analyse financial data prepared under JGAAP and translate findings into English for internal and external stakeholders
Review Japanese financial statements, disclosures, and supporting documents
Support month-end and year-end closing processes
Assist with regulatory, audit, and compliance-related reporting
Act as a key point of contact for Japanese-speaking clients on accounting matters
Manage expectations, timelines, and deliverables in a client-service environment
Support cross-border projects involving Japanese entities
Supervise, guide, and review the work of junior team members
Provide on-the-job coaching and ensure quality control across outputs
Identify discrepancies, risks, and accounting issues, and propose resolutions
Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with internal controls
Essential
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent), or in progress
Practical exposure to Japanese GAAP (JGAAP)
Fluency in Japanese and English, with the ability to read and interpret financial statements and accounting documents in Japanese
Prior experience working with Japanese financial statements
Some experience guiding, reviewing, or managing junior staff
Proven ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders (clients, internal teams, external advisors)
Comfortable operating in a service-provider or client-facing environment
Strong attention to detail, judgement, and analytical capability
Clear and professional communication across cultures
Preferred (Not Mandatory)
Experience in financial services, fund administration, or professional services
Exposure to IFRS / cross-GAAP reconciliation
Experience supporting Japanese clients or regional finance teams
Advanced Excel capability
Blend technical accounting with leadership and client engagement
Operate in a genuinely cross-border, Japanese-facing environment
Build depth in JGAAP and international reporting differences
