New Zealand Football has an exciting opportunity with a newly created Head of Finance(Business Partner)role
As the Head of Finance (Business Partner), you will play a pivotal role within New Zealand Football’s People & Finance Team, leading the finance function with a strategic and commercial focus. You’ll work closely with the GM People & Finance, senior leaders, and budget holders to deliver accurate, insightful reporting, forecasting, and analysis that drives performance and supports smart decision-making. Alongside building strong business partnerships across the organisation, you will manage and mentor a small finance team, lifting capability, improving systems, and creating a proactive, solutions-focused finance environment that enables the future success of New Zealand Football.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnering:You will build trusted relationships with GMs and Heads of Departments working collaboratively to deliver tailored financial insights, lead budget and forecast meetings, coach and mentor budget owners to improve financial acumen and act as a trusted advisor to the GM People & Finance.
Leadership & Coaching:You will lead, coach, and mentor the Management Accountant and People & Finance Administrator, ensuring a high-performing finance team, while also developing finance training materials and sharing expertise across the organisation.
Financial Accounting & Reporting:You will take ownership of month-end processes, manage revenue recognition and grant compliance, deliver quarterly reforecasts, prepare annual statutory accounts, and collaborate with the GM People & Finance and department leads to deliver annual budgets.
Strategic Process Improvement:You will drive continuous improvement across finance systems, reporting, and operational processes, leading innovations that enhance efficiency and automation while taking ownership to proactively solve challenges and optimise business performance.
Financial Compliance & Audit:You will act as a point of contact for BDO, FIFA, and OFC audits, ensure ongoing compliance with financial policies and internal controls, manage procurement processes, and continuously improve audit and compliance practices.
General:You will have ownership of payroll preparation, manage insurance applications and claims, and maintain the accounting system (Xero) to ensure operational excellence.

You bring a commercial mindset, strong technical skills, and a passion for supporting the growth of football in New Zealand.
