A leading online educational institution is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Java and Angular. This role, currently remote in Mexico, focuses on developing web applications and managing project specifications. Candidates should have over 6 years of experience in software development, proficiency in the Spring Boot framework, and effective communication skills in English. A commitment to delivering high-quality work in an Agile environment is essential. Once the Guadalajara office opens, a hybrid working model will be implemented.

Senior Software Engineer – Full stack (Java/Angular)

Responsibilities
  • Develop web applications and web services using Java, REST, XML, HTTP, and other web technologies.

  • Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in high-pressure environments; excel at pinpointing and resolving problems in early project stages to avoid cost/time expenses.

  • Deliver high quality projects on time, through ability to design architecture, write high quality code, and execute effective unit tests.

  • Optimize performance tuning for high utilization 24x7 access.

  • Integrate third party products with existing infrastructure.

  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in self-managed and team-based Agile projects.

  • Work with internal customers to gather business processes and project requirements.

  • Research, design, and develop computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.

  • Analyze software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.

  • Consult with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system.

  • Formulate and design software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.

  • Develop and direct software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation. Ensure work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

  • Perform miscellaneous projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
  • Project designs and plans are creative, employ useful technologies, meet deadlines, and fulfill goals and requirements.

  • Project estimates are well-researched and accurate.

  • Project testing procedures are effective and timely. Results are well-analyzed, and problems are corrected.

  • Required reports and documentation are complete and current.

  • Good communication and working relationships exist with clients and co-workers. Concerns are promptly addressed, and any problems effectively resolved.

  • Management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

  • Company policies and procedures are closely followed.

  • Experience with Web Services development: REST/SOA/XML/HTML.

  • Good understanding of issue troubleshooting and performance tuning.

  • Commitment to quality through the ability to translate complex technical requirements into functional software using best practices to write high quality code.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Working equally well in self-managed and team-based Agile projects and the ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to other team members.

  • Encouraged to assist less experienced peers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is at the discretion of the hiring manager.

  • 6+ years of experience in software development, pioneering new approaches and technologies in engineering.

  • Experience in web-based applications and web services using Java, REST, ServiceNow, and other web technologies, including experience interfacing with databases, and integrating third party products with existing infrastructure.

  • Proficient in Spring Boot framework for the backend and have a strong command of at least one front-end JavaScript framework like Angular version 16 and up.

  • One+ year experience with AWS or any Cloud experience.

  • Need to be able to speak English and maintain a conversation.

Nice to have
  • Docker.

  • Kubernetes.

  • Understanding of DevOps CI/CD.

Location

This role is currently remote within México; the position will shift to a hybrid model once our Guadalajara office opens.
