Job Summary & Accountabilities
The Fabrication Engineer serves as liaison to management on manufacturing, quality, process and engineering related issues. Fabrication Engineer may work independently with other Engineering functions from design, new product development to assure product implementation and compliance to business or industry standards. Successful Fabrication Engineer can lead or Supervise Technician in multiple engineering disciplines providing technical support in projects, documentation, lean, cost reductions, equipment, process and safety. The Fabrication Engineer must assess and anticipate needs of the business and find solutions for the business. Communicate proactively with associates, business management and customers.
- Coordinate or Supervise Technicians in the areas of manufacturing, maintenance, lean, tooling or new product introduction.
- Develop or select industry/manufacturing standards or specifications required to successfully launch or build products or software.
- Project Management oversight of technician programs in lean, quality or manufacturing.
- Analyze failures through six sigma methodologies.
- Maintain in depth knowledge of lean and manufacturing programs to eliminate production line bottlenecks and inefficiencies. Line balancing, setup reduction, higher yield and space optimization.
- Work closely with Safety and Health departments to assure the production area, tooling and fixtures are designed ergonomically and safe.
- Provides day-to-day guidance to management and or associates on potential changes that impact production line volumes, quality, safety or deliveries.
- Oversee the transition of products from internal and external sources to our manufacturing plant including, buy vs. make decisions and job move programs from other countries.
- Documentation of products through use of Bills of Materials, Routers, Value stream maps, Flow charts, spreadsheets drawings, videos or digital photos. Create Engineering deviations or change.
- Predicated, Preventative and Reacted maintenance of machinery and equipment. Setup programs that provide high OEE.
- Utilize software for documentation and drawing of products, Auto-Cad, PRO-E or other as required.
- Participate in evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs. Follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.
- Implement appropriation requests for machines, software or tooling through written documentation with supporting information.
- Guarantee the compliance of company procedures and policies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (education, experience level, knowledge, skills, designations/certifications).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
- At minimum of four (4) years of high-level experience in manufacturing or engineering. Experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment is a must.
- Fluency in English and Spanish required (read, write and speak).
- Well-developed, advance knowledge and skills in engineering, project management and methodologies.
- Manage large and difficult projects.
- Experience in drafting tools such as PRO-E, Auto-Cad or others.
- Proficiency in use of MS Office Software – advanced Power Point skills required.
- Desirable experience using MRP or Enterprise systems in Engineering or Manufacturing.
- CNC Machines knowledge and programming.
- Knowledge in bending, punching and welding (mig, tig, spotweld, stud weld).
- Knowledge of powder paint pre-treatment systems and powder booths.
- Six Sigma methodologies.
- Self‑starter. Ability to solve problems, take responsibility and deliver results with a spirit of innovation and strong commitment to excellence.
