Scope of role
This Design Engineering position is located at Regal Rexnord’s Gearing Division facility in Apodaca and is responsible for leading engineering activities and projects which are critical to achieve company goals and customer demands, including New Product Development related to industrialization (PFMEA, Standard Work, and Safe Launch) of new and/or improved products. Key responsibilities include direct customer support, manufacturing support for design or quality issues, and engineering support for implementation of large strategic projects used in the utility solar industry.
This role reports directly to a US -based functional manager and will regularly interact with other US team members, customers, and stakeholders. Therefore, strong proficiency in English (verbal, written, and presenting) is necessary for success. The work arrangements are fully onsite and less than 10% travel is required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support strategic project launch activity at the site of manufacture related to design engineering, design for manufacture, and design validation.
- Collaborate with local Manufacturing Engineering resources on product industrialization activities, including line layout for assembly, and associated manufacturing cost estimates.
- Collaborate directly with customers and vendors as the point of contact (POC), lead project management of continuous improvement projects.
- Manage engineering scope of work and priorities to align with project milestones.
- Support the manufacturing team through review and disposition of component part variances and/or purchased part substitutions.
- Create test plans to validate design concepts and material or manufacturing changes, summarizing results and documenting conclusions.
- Provide technical support to the Sourcing and Quality teams with vendor pre‑approval, PPAP Charter creation, drawing / specification / deviation review, and PPAP part approvals.
- Regularly “Go to Gemba” as a resource for technical support, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and implementing design improvements.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s (licenciatura) degree in Engineering from an accredited university is required.
- 5+ years’ relevant hands‑on experience in a mechanical design engineering role
- Demonstrated ability to lead meetings and/or calls directly with customers or stakeholders.
- Strong proficiency with the English language, including effective use of diverse communication methods and channels (verbal, written, presentation, and digital).
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and manufacturing processes and a demonstrated ability to apply them to product design and development, along with a working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD design and drawing GD&T principles.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead activities of a cross‑functional international team.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools: 80/20, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Flow, Standard Work, Visual Management, Gemba, & Problem Solving.
- Capable of working effectively in a fast‑paced, results/metric‑driven environment, with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks with a sense of urgency and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willing and able to travel up to 10% to production facilities to observe current methods or implement changes.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous project management experience.
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma, lean design, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Experience in Oracle and/or SAP ERP systems, with the ability to leverage these tools for project management and cost analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with FEA tools and results.
- Prior experience working in a global organization with remote resources. Knowledge of industrial gearboxes and the design or manufacturing processes of components such as gears, shafts, bearings, castings, fabrications, forgings, and fasteners.
