Overview
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic construction manager to oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion. This professional is responsible for coordinating and supervising the construction, developing and delivering an overall construction strategy for the project, reviewing the project in‑depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs. The construction manager will hire and manage subcontractors and staff and provide input or preparing and submitting budgets, as needed. This professional will also be planning, organizing, scheduling, directing and controlling the delivery of the construction, overseeing all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations. The construction manager needs to ensure that value is maximized, the client’s reputation is protected, risks are mitigated, interfaces managed, and the required project controls are in place.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion.
- Coordinate and supervise construction activities, develop and deliver an overall construction strategy, review project scope to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
- Hire and manage subcontractors and staff; provide input for budgets as needed.
- Plan, organize, schedule, direct and control the delivery of construction; monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
- Ensure value is maximized, protect the client’s reputation, mitigate risks, manage interfaces, and implement required project controls.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience working as a construction manager, managing and leading a team on construction sites.
- Engineering degree with chartered status.
- Understanding and experience delivering industrial, commercial base building and fit-out projects for retail / shopping malls.
- Understanding and experience of the engineering and construction industry from a technical and commercial perspective.
- Knowledge of up-to-date design developments, statutory regulations, codes of practice and industry standards in relation to construction.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- PMI certification is a plus.
Skills and Qualifications
- Provide discipline support and client representatives to package managers during design, supply, installation and commissioning phases.
- Approve / sign off all construction related plans and decisions across all packages.
- Review contractors’ designs in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements and good engineering practice, safety and environmental protection; ensure design process considers safe, efficient and effective construction.
- Identify and notify design changes resulting from contract variations within the construction manager’s scope and communicate with project and package managers.
- Implement and adhere to the project quality plan within the area of responsibility.
- Highlight technical queries or disputes regarding contractor supplied documentation and assist with resolution.
- Ensure adequate design safety risk assessments are undertaken; monitor and close out actions where appropriate.
- Provide technical input to the project quality plan and support engineering and O&M managers on construction issues.
- Provide technical and commercial input into construction plans supplied by contractors.
- Analytical skills to plan strategies, investigate cost variances and solve project problems.
- Business skills to prepare and follow project budgets, hire and manage staff, and coordinate with other workers and managers.
- Strong communication skills to convey information clearly, interact with owners/clients, and coordinate with inspectors and specialists.
- Decision-making to select personnel and subcontractors and to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets.
- Leadership to delegate tasks to construction workers, subcontractors and managers to ensure timely and accurate project completion.
- Technical proficiency in construction technologies, contracts, and technical drawings; passion for quality.
