A leading engineering firm is seeking a Thermo-Mechanical Architect for their Rome location. In this role, you will lead the technical development of thermal and mechanical architecture for complex space systems and mentor a skilled engineering team. Candidates should have a Master's or PhD in a relevant field, with over 8 years of experience in the space industry. Fluency in English is essential, and knowledge of Italian is advantageous. The position requires on-site work with some travel.

We are looking for a Thermo-Mechanical Architect on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in Rome, Italy.

ATG Europe, in partnership with one of our major client, invites you to join a team of world-class engineers and scientists in Italy, where your expertise will shape the future of space exploration. As the Lead Thermal Mechanical Architect, you will have the unique opportunity to drive technical excellence, mentor multidisciplinary teams, and deliver solutions that will define the next generation of space systems.

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Lead and be the end responsible for the technical definition and development of the thermal and mechanical architecture of a complex space system.
  • Own the thermo-mechanical subsystem across all project phases: requirements definition, design, analysis, assembly, integration and testing.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the thermo-mechanical subsystem with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage, coordinate and supervise a thermo-mechanical project team composed of mechanical designers, thermal engineers/analysts and structural engineers/analysts.
  • Review the work executed by the thermo-mechanical team and ensure compliance with the applicable procedures and standards.
  • Support and participate in environmental test campaigns (TVAC, vibration, etc.).
  • Contribute to supplier selection and procurement from a technical standpoint (e.g. by writing technical specifications).
  • Ensure high-quality technical documentation and clear reporting.

Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Additional certifications in systems engineering, project management, or quality assurance (e.g., PMP, AS9100, ECSS) are an asset.
  • At least 8 years of experience in thermal and mechanical engineering for space systems.
  • Proven ability to lead technical activities and work across disciplines.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and documentation to international standards.
  • Hands‑on experience with thermal and/or mechanical design, analysis and AIT.
  • Solid knowledge of space standards and quality processes.
  • Clear communicator, comfortable engaging with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work on-site at client’s facilities in Italy, with occasional travel to other ATG Europe or client locations as required.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU and obtain any necessary security clearances.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of Italian is an asset.
