Senior FPGA Development Engineer, Bespoke Solutions

Responsibilities
  • Develop custom RTL and integrate with third‑party libraries to build end‑to‑end 100G+ solutions.
  • Collaborate with design and system engineers to perform trade‑offs and architect new solutions for customers.
  • Own the interface between software and hardware by developing drivers and providing software examples.
  • Lead design meetings to plan development and review peer designs.
  • Identify new opportunities and technologies to improve the customer experience and add features.
Day in the Life

You will work on a cross‑functional team of hardware and software developers, writing programmable logic and embedded software to interact with custom hardware. You will debug RTL in simulation, synthesize and implement it to meet timing and performance requirements, deploy RTL onto hardware targets, and debug issues that arise in RTL, hardware, or software. You will provide subject‑matter expertise in architectural discussions and strategic planning meetings.

We develop AWS‑owned hardware solutions to scale globally, minimize cost, and maximize value for our customers. Our team includes hardware, software, and FPGA engineers with a dedicated product development lab in Arlington, VA. We foster a culture of knowledge sharing, mentorship, and continuous learning.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • 7+ years of non‑internship professional RTL development experience.
  • 3+ years developing programmable logic in VHDL or Verilog for FPGA SOCs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of full RTL development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience developing programmable logic for FPGAs in VHDL or Verilog.
  • Experience with Xilinx Ultrascale+ FPGAs, Versal ACAPs, and/or Intel Agilex SOCs.
  • Experience developing programmable logic for 100G networking systems.
  • Current, active U.S. Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
Security Clearance

This position requires a U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance. After selection, the candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph or a commensurate clearance for each agency for which they perform AWS work.

Salary & Benefits

Colorado: $159,200 – $215,300 annually
National: $143,300 – $247,600 annually
