Background and Purpose of the Assignment
This role will serve as an advisor to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Unit to bring breakthrough progress in how WFP addresses Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) building on the current initiatives on cultural change in terms of inclusion, racial equity, gender equality, disability inclusion and every DEI dimension across its worldwide operations and 20,000+ employees.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Drive strategic engagement across the organization.
- Develop and deliver actionable programmes for DEI that drive progress towards identified measures of success from an internal and external perspective.
- Ensure key stakeholders are educated as to what is required from them and when.
- Draft an internal DEI communications strategy designed to engage different audiences.
- Identify suitable external award / benchmark entries and create appropriate submissions to increase external recognition and to drive employee engagement.
- Contribute in shaping WFP’s change agenda in the ongoing area of work to address racial equity, anti‑racism, disability inclusion, gender equality and a cultural shift towards an inclusive and respectful work culture in line with WFP’s mission, vision and core values.
- Contribute to review of current procedures and policies assessing and analysing the extent to which they support or hinder WFP’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
- Partner with HR colleagues to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion principles and global best practices across the talent management pipeline.
- Contribute to the design and institutionalization of learning and development initiatives to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion, racial equity and gender equality in the workplace with specific focus on equitable hiring, retention and promotion of staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Contribute to WFP workforce reports for UN‑wide efforts on diversity, equity and inclusion such as UNSWAP (Gender) and UN Disability Inclusion.
- Contribute to best practice knowledge and evidence‑based approaches to organizational diversity including participating in networks of senior DEI professionals in other international organizations, private companies, academia, etc.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing amongst management staff and the WFP community at large.
- Model and actively champion behaviours advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Education: University degree in Social Science, Human Resources Management, Psychology, Adult Education, Gender Studies, Development studies or equivalent experience in related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 11 years or more (of which six international) of senior level experience in a relevant area of DEI and Culture Change. Management role in DEI in a large organization is required. Extensive experience leading multicultural teams and improving performance and motivation.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- A proven track record in leading organizational development and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion, racial equity and gender equality strategies. Experience in anti‑racism and racial inclusion programs highly desirable.
- Best practice DEI, racial equity and gender equality leadership expertise covering strategy development, action planning and implementation.
- Experience carrying out DEI implementation in complex international organisations or large global corporations with a diverse and global footprint.
- Exceptional ability to drive ideas to execution and deliver results.
- Strong personal credibility and influencing skills with a proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior managers in order to realise outcomes with a transferable passion for DEI, racial equity and gender equality.
- Excellence in leading coaching and motivating diverse teams and driving improving performance.
- Languages: Fluency (level C) in English. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish and/or WFP’s working language Portuguese. Highly desirable.
