Are you looking for a rewarding career where you can make a difference?

Do you want a job where no two days are the same?

About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join Leicestershire County Council as a Healthy Places Officer. Public Health is one of six departments within the County Council, exercising the full range of public health duties, including the delivery and commissioning of services. The Director of Public Health is a chief officer of the council, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This position reports to the Strategic Lead responsible for the Wider Determinants of Health. The post holder will support the Strategic Lead to deliver projects and programmes within the wider determinants of health portfolio.

This is a varied, interesting and rewarding role which provides individuals with an opportunity to develop their understanding of the wider range of wider determinants and their impact on health, as well as their broader public health skills working with partners across the system as well as within the Council.

The role will include large elements of partnership working, alongside input into projects, policies, strategies, campaigns and consultations to embed health considerations with the aim of reducing health inequalities. The portfolio area itself is broad and takes a life course approach, focusing on our Health in All Policies approach and areas of work such as planning and the natural and built environment. The role will lead on the operational elements of the wider determinants portfolio, including the creation and review of health impact assessments, and will be expected to apply expertise in public health to areas such as council decision making, policy-making, planning and the built environment.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for improving health and wellbeing. Experience of working in one or more of the following sectors - public health, planning or environment and transport - is essential. Candidates with a background of roles related to public health, particularly in relation to the wider determinants of health, are strongly encouraged to apply.

People skills and flexibility are essential in this fast‑paced portfolio area, alongside good communication experience. Support will be provided to develop knowledge across the portfolio.

As well as being suitably qualified, candidates will need to have experience of partnership working, working independently to set deadlines and influencing change. This is a great opportunity to be a member of a high‑performing team and to ensure that public health plays a key role in the improvement of outcomes for our communities.

About You

To apply for this post, you must demonstrate experience and provide relevant examples of the following:

  • Ability to work successfully in an environment requiring extensive liaison, such as across partnerships or within large complex organisations.

  • Ability to motivate partners to work together effectively for change, including the VCSE and statutory sector.
  • Ability to source and translate data and evidence into action and to contextualise findings into deliverable activities.
  • Negotiating and communicating with a range of local authorities and stakeholders to impact on local decisions and actions.
  • Ability to work autonomously

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to,equality, diversity and inclusion.

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.

Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability.
