Company Description

Marie Curie is the UK's leading end of life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end of life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end of life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they're likely to die from.

As part of our Communications Department, the Strategic Communications Manager supports the implementation and optimisation of our communications campaigns in line with our organisational strategy. This is a unique opportunity to shape this new role as you develop and deliver communications plans, helping us refine our corporate story with engaging messages that are consistently integrated, aligned, audience led and prioritised to achieve our objectives.

In this newly created role, you'll develop and deliver communications plans that bring together key organisational priorities, ensuring Marie Curie's external communications are coordinated, compelling, and impactful. You'll help shape the charity's story, refine its messaging, and ensure that communications are aligned, consistent, and tailored to the needs of our audiences.

You will be responsible for:
  • Supporting the Senior Strategic Communications Manager and department Heads to ensure team, channel, campaign and product strategies are aligned and support the dept, directorate and organisational strategy.
  • Developing and delivering strategic communications plans including the production of key messages, Q&A and stakeholder maps.
  • Coordinating prioritisation and planning of strategy delivery, monitoring of actions/interventions, with the Senior Planner.
  • Evaluating communications activity and using those insights to adapt and shape impactful campaigns.
  • Monitor performance against strategy, KPIs, and objectives, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Support risk and issue communications in collaboration with PR and senior colleagues.
  • Evaluate and report on communications activity to inform continuous improvement.
Key Criteria:
  • Solid experience in an external communications role with a track record of developing and implementing communication plans from start to finish.
  • Experience prioritising campaigns, projects and products based on organisational objectives and make recommendations to senior managers.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of an organisation, with the confidence to influence and drive change.
  • Skilled in translating research and insights into clear, compelling, and audience-specific messaging.
  • Highly organised with strong project management capabilities, adept at working collaboratively across cross-functional teams and with external partners.
  • Experience working in a charity, not-for-profit, or health-related organisation (desirable).
