Job description

Project Manager – Sheffield Area

My client is a leading contractor specializing in electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering installations across the UK. With a strong presence in the Midlands, North West, Scotland, and the South, they deliver high-quality engineering solutions with a focus in the water sector.

My client are seeking to strengthen their Delivery team with an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of a wastewater project based in the Sheffield Area. The role involves managing the full lifecycle of a construction project — from design and planning through to commissioning and handover — ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong health & safety culture and ensure exceptional standards across all direct and subcontracted works.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Business Management System (BMS) throughout all project phases, from tender handover to final completion.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with the client, stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure the project is adequately resourced with trained personnel who understand their individual responsibilities.
  • Lead project planning activities, review and approve Project Execution Plans (PEPs), and ensure compliance through ongoing monitoring.
  • Review and authorise method statements and construction plans prior to site activities.
  • Ensure comprehensive and accurate record-keeping is maintained in line with project and governance requirements.
  • Identify, track, and report on non-conformities and associated costs as required.
  • Oversee all commercial aspects of the project, including forecasting, cost control, and proactive contract administration.
  • Apply proven project management practices from early design through to commissioning and client handover.
  • Keep abreast of industry innovations and developments through external networking and CPD.
  • Contribute to a professional and positive image of the delivery team in all internal and external communications.
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety, quality, and environmental performance.
  • Ensure all customer requirements are fully understood and delivered to enhance client satisfaction.
  • Maintain sound technical understanding of civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines in the water sector.

Essential:

  • Significant experience managing multi-disciplinary design and construction projects, ideally within the UK water industry.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction, engineering, or commercial discipline.
  • Project Management Qualification (e.g., APM PMQ or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience working collaboratively with clients and end users.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with a delivery-driven mindset.
  • Proficient in programme and cost management, with experience delivering against time, quality, and budget KPIs.
  • Understanding of NEC or IChemE contract forms, with proven administration and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing for and presenting at internal governance reviews.
  • Strong understanding of risk and opportunity management.
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction health & safety requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering water and wastewater treatment schemes.
  • Chartered membership of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIOB, RICS, APM).
  • NEC Project Manager Accreditation.
  • Technical Competencies (Advanced):
  • Contract Management
  • Governance & Compliance
  • Budgeting and Cost Control
  • Risk, Opportunity & Issue Management
  • Project Scheduling & Planning
  • Digital Delivery Tools
  • Procurement Strategy & Supply Chain Management
  • Pre-Construction & Design Development
  • Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Resource Planning & Management
  • Change Control Procedures
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading water infrastructure contractors, who have exciting plans for near future in the region. For more information on this role please contact Jack Burton on 07809426902 or via email on jack.burton@anderselite.com
