Job description

If you’ve ever dreamed of a role made just for you, a role with freedom, deep clinical satisfaction, incredible support, a loyal client base, and only cats, then this could be the most extraordinary veterinary job you’ll ever come across.

The Cat Doctor is not a typical practice.

It’s a feline-only, consult-only, 100% mobile service, created by Dr Amy Bergs, an Advanced Practitioner in Feline Medicine. The service was built to provide what cats truly need: a calm, stress-free, personalized care in their own homes.

Now, after 13 years of building a deeply loved and trusted practice, Amy is ready to step back from the clinical front line. And she’s looking for that vet: someone experienced, confident, independent, and passionate about feline medicine and wellbeing; someone ready to step into a thriving, beloved service and help shape its future.

This is more than a job. It’s a lifestyle - a rare chance to continue and build on the legacy of a vet who has created a career around choice, family, balance, kindness, and above all, feline wellbeing.

And yes, it can come with a house, a car, and even the chance to take over the business down the line.

Why This Role Is Completely Unique
  • Cats only, always. If feline medicine is your passion, you will be in heaven. No dogs. No farm work. No emergency surgery lists. Just thoughtful, relationship-focused, low-stress feline care.
  • Consult-only, in-home medicine. No hospitalization. No ops. No unexpected late nights or weekends. We’re GP-style: managing chronic conditions, senior cats, pain relief, behavior, and preventive care, all without the pressure cooker of traditional practice.
  • 100% mobile. You’ll drive a fully equipped practice vehicle (provided), supported by two exceptional, experienced RVNs. Together, you visit cats in the comfort of their own homes, where they and their humans are relaxed, grateful, and bonded.
  • A core team who feel like family. You’ll be working alongside two phenomenal nurses, Shreen and Molly, who are independent, highly skilled RVNs with ISFM Certificates in Feline Nursing. They run nurse consults, monitoring, BP checks, diabetic reviews, and much more, providing fantastic support and continuity.
  • Accommodation, if you want it. In addition to the company car, this role can include a 4‑bedroom house in Coulsdon, a green, peaceful, family‑friendly London suburb on the edge of the Surrey countryside, with quick and easy rail access to Central London. Perfect if you’re relocating or want a soft landing.
  • The founder stays involved, as needed. Amy isn’t disappearing, just stepping back from consulting full-time. You’ll have independence while also enjoying her support. She will run the business, handle the admin, cover your holidays, provide clinical guidance, mentor you if you want to grow the service, and act as a sounding board whenever you need it. Or if all is going well, leave you to simply work your magic if that is what you prefer.
  • Path to future ownership (optional). If you want to grow the business and eventually take it over, Amy is ready to mentor you into becoming the future of the Cat Doctor.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

This is veterinary medicine at a human pace. We have excellent, longstanding relationships with local practices, and our clients are co‑registered. This means we can easily refer for hospitalization, urgent investigations, and surgical procedures, while emergency care is covered by Veteris, VetsNow and other local out‑of‑hours providers.

  • Our phone is active 9–5, Monday–Friday, and kept with the vet, with no expectation to answer outside these hours (though you can choose to follow up if you wish).
  • Client communication is shared between the vet and nurses throughout the day.
  • Consults run 10 am–3 pm, ideal for family life.
  • Usually 3–5 consults per day, in 2‑hour slots for thorough, stress‑free care.
  • Travel is limited and intelligently scheduled.
  • IDEXX courier collections for bloods; in‑house urinalysis where needed.
  • Continuity of care, which clients adore.
  • Significant flexibility — occasional early finishes, late starts, or adjustments for life events are supported.
Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced vet who truly loves cats, including the spicy and grumpy ones! You’ll be skilled in medical cases, chronic disease management, and senior cat care, and able to think independently with excellent problem‑solving skills. Flexibility, adaptability, and confidence working in varied home environments—often in small spaces such as on the floor or in bathrooms—are essential, as is clear, compassionate communication and a commitment to continuity of care. Above all, you’ll thrive on providing genuinely stress‑free veterinary medicine.

You must have a valid driving licence and be comfortable working in sole charge situations, though you’ll have the full support of our experienced, enthusiastic RVNs, with Amy available for clinical guidance whenever needed.

A certificate in feline medicine is desirable, or a willingness to pursue one. We also have the caseload for someone interested in ultrasound and acupuncture, providing the perfect opportunity to develop and expand these services with our full support.

If you have leadership experience as a senior vet and are ready to build on the strong foundations Amy has laid, this could be your dream role.

What We Offer
  • Salary £40,000–£50,000
  • Practice car provided, private use is allowed
  • Optional accommodation available
  • Monday–Friday (9–5) only — no evenings, weekends, or out‑of‑hours work
  • Flexibility for family life and other personal events
  • 5.6 weeks’ holiday, with cover provided by Amy herself
  • Fully supported and funded CPD
  • Private health insurance
  • A calm, grateful client base and an exceptional, supportive nurse team

If this sounds like the role you’ve been waiting for, don’t miss the chance to join a truly unique practice where you can focus on the cats you love, work at a human pace, and shape the future of The Cat Doctor.

Call for an informal chat or apply today and take the first step toward a career that combines professional fulfilment, lifestyle flexibility, and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in feline care.
