Internews is hiring a Project Director to lead a three-year project under the FCDO Forest Governance Markets and Climate programme, supporting journalists, media and civil society in Cameroon, Liberia, Ghana, Vietnam and Indonesia to strengthen media coverage of forest governance, raise public awareness and influence decision-makers for more equitable and sustainable forest management.

• Provide overall strategic direction and technical leadership to achieve project goals.
• Plan and establish operational objectives, delegating tasks to deliver short- and medium-term results.
• Write programmatic reports to the funder, act as key project representative to donors, and prepare briefings for donors and stakeholders.
• Create regular program updates for EJN’s monthly newsletter and coordinate with Internews communications teams to disseminate stories and project updates.
• Review calls for applications and project-related communication materials.
• Explore fundraising opportunities, build relationships with potential funders and contribute to new project proposals.
• Oversee all administrative and operational aspects, including staff management and security protocols.
• Provide high-level budget direction in coordination with Finance staff.
• Track progress toward deliverables, assess impact and lead quarterly reflection sessions to adjust strategies.
• Maintain communication with internal colleagues on broader Internews strategies and policies.
• Review resource materials, keep updated on forest governance policy and processes.
• Travel to attend FGMC Annual Stakeholder Forums, represent Internews at conferences and donor events.
• Supervise Africa- and Asia-based Coordinators and other project staff.
• Uphold Internews’ Core Values and demonstrate commitment to belonging, dignity and justice.

• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including 5 years managing donor-funded projects in media, environment or forest governance.
• University degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years in senior management roles.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and diplomatic skills.
• Ability to collaborate and problem-solve in a multicultural, remote setting.
• Flexibility to adjust working hours for different time zones.

• Experience with international nonprofits or development sector.
• Managing UK or UK-funded projects with robust reporting and compliance.
• Knowledge of EU and international forest governance policy (FLEGT, REDD+, EUDR, VPA).
• Proficiency in French, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese or other relevant languages.
• Understanding of local media contexts in project focus countries.
• Prior staff management or mentoring experience.
• Technical software proficiencies.

Expected office hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:30. Fully remote.
